Games that you stopped playing because of other players.

Over Christmas I was given a steam key for DotA 2 and have really gotten into the game. Recently, a friend of mine suggested that I try League of Legends, which I decided to do as a change of pace. After about 3 games, I uninstalled, because in every one of those games the majority of the other players were acting like massive ass-hats. It completely put me off of the game, and as a result Riot won't be getting any money from me (which is unfortunate, as I have nothing against them, but I'm not spending money on something that I won't enjoy).

So in short, my question to the escapist is have you ever played a game which you would have liked if it wasn't for the other players, and if so, would you be willing to share your story? And if you had a method of dealing with abusive (non-cheating) players, what was it?

I stopped playing Trouble in Terrorist Town in Garry's Mod because the community are a massive bunch of assholes that abuse the rules, at least that is what I can conclude from playing with the Australian community. Basically, for anyone familiar with the game's rules I killed someone who I genuinely thought was a traitor as they had been shooting at me and they turned out to be an innocent, note that I had done this only once. All of the person's buddies immediately started hurling abuse at me and I was immediately banned from the server.

I stopped playing World of Warcraft because of the other players. It was a combination of their inability to accomplish simple tasks (like don't stand in the fire), their selfishness and utter lack of patience to the point that they'd blame me -the healer or tank depending on what character I was playing- for their death out of my range for heals or taunt.

I was getting over the game due to the dumbed down to tank and spank content in WotLK and was one of the people asking for more challenging content in the next expansion only to find that by Cataclysm a large majority of the playerbase had become content with never actually having to work hard to complete a dungeon and had become incapable of situational awareness and teamwork.

Rogues are the worst. I never saw a Rogue successfully sap a mob in Cataclysm, not even once out of the dozens of times I asked them to do it.

Well, yeah it happened to me one time. I don't know if you've heard of that game but it was called League of Legends :p

It's not a really exciting story - I was a DotA player - I can't say I'm amazing but at least I'm not terrible and I am capable of playing including what I'd consider some advanced tactics. At any rate, I wasn't a total newbie but I wasn't spectacular either (especially considering I hadn't played DotA in a while). So I played against bots and good god were my teammates annoying. Game starts, me and another player go to the bottom, we attack and coordinate fluidly with no communication and I manage to get first blood within a couple of minutes - we even left the other enemy hero at, like 100 or so HP but I also had that much, so I had to flee back and leave him. In another couple of minutes, the two enemy heroes come back, we attack again, kill one and the other flees again on low HP. And I also have low HP. And my other teammates tell me to "stop feeding"...yeah, fb, 0 deaths and the only person with kills (aside maybe from my lane partner - I can't recall who got the second kill) and that's apparently feeding. Things deteriorated after I (and another player) were shouted at and verbally (well, textually) abused for pretty minor mistakes. I then played another game - wasn't much better, so I decided that DotA was still an option, if I decided to play...well, DotA - LoL didn't really offer much benefits, so I uninstalled it. I'm not sure if the DotA community is really better but at least there I know what I'm doing, so I won't get shouted at for newbie mistakes.

If I stopped playing a multiplayer game every time I met an unfriendly person... well, I would never play multiplayer games, that's for sure. If I see someone talking trash I simply ignore them. Basing one's enjoyment on random strangers doesn't seem particularly reasonable to me.

An asshat in CoD ruined any will for me to EVER touch the series' multiplayer again. Just imagine the worst parts of R&P rolled into one guy. This is before I started frequently using the Internet. I raged quite hard and swore never to pick up the series multiplayer ever again. This was Modern Warfare 2 time. I probably wouldn't have gotten upset if I got used to it, but he had taken it a bit too personal. Fuck those idiots. I've never been that enraged since, and I plan to keep it that way for as long as I can.

[sub]Inb4 50 hyperbillion LoL related posts[/sub]

I had to quit UMVC3 for a while because people are ASSHOLES! Between running into a brick wall of Swag Team after Swag Team, post match taunts and Dark Weskers I had to take a pretty decently sized break from it. The trick is to stop caring about winning and switch your team a little bit even for a short space of time. I have no idea why I cared about my rank so much, oh no now I have more losses than wins let me just cry in a corner for a while T_T

I do get why people dislike the LoL community but y'know there IS an ignore button. Just saiyan.

I get more annoyed by people going "OH SHITTY JUNGLER NEVER GANKS!" *sigh* fuck off. Anyone who has ever raged at a jungler needs this. Now.

"Imma take a few minions! >:)"

"Jungler" is just another word for "scapegoat"

I'm slowly giving up on Planetside 2 because I want to maintain our empire and everyone else just wants to sit around and farm each other for experience

You just played with a bad server. I know quite a few that are great fun, however they ARE US servers. If you want me to send you the data, I can.
I agree that the server I was on was just a particularly bad one but after playing a fair amount of the game its honestly not unfair to conclude that most of the Australian servers are filled with unsporting assholes. It felt as if no matter what server I join people would act like that. The game just isn't fun enough to constitute making the effort to deal with that shit.

I find it consistently heart-breaking to be trapped in a base by two Liberators with a few other guys and watching the column of 30 Prowlers roll up to the Crown and vanish

I don't really play online games. Well, there's the one game, which I log in now and then, but I never came across unsavory people on it.

My first match of DOTA in Warcraft 3 had a non-stop stream of hate thrown at me.

I was like what, 12 at the time? Haven't looked back.

God help you if you're a Jungling Tank (Amumu). You get blamed for EVERYTHING.

I stopped playing Normals and Ranked in LoL, though I still play ARAM because everyone is a lot more mellow when the invisible boogeyman of ELO isn't over their head.
I can only play LoL against the AI.

The second I join a match with real people I hear nothing but vitriol :/.

Lately I've been noticing it more and more in WoW so I'm slowly starting to just play alone there too. I can't stand competitive gamers, I'll take "casual nubs" any day of the week.

Yeah, Any online shooter ever, including TF2. Trolls, hackers, cheating sons of bitches and stupid teammates... no thanks. I'll go play a game where the AI partners have a 120 IQ or better.

I stopped playing Mount & Blade: Warband multiplayer because the Australian community there is fucking horrid. Hopefully it won't be as bad by the time Bannerlord comes out though.
