Games that you think shouldn't have gotten cancelled.

Remember that game called They? It was that game where you only have 1 gun, but you can modify it any way you wish with parts you acquire as you play. It generated a lot of buzz back in '07 and was supposed to come out in 2009. Developer Metropolis Software halted development when they were purchased by CD Projekt, in order to focus on The Witcher 2. The development stop is supposed to be "temporary", but I seriously doubt that they're gonna continue working on it. I hope they do, though.

Another game that I was really interested in playing was Cipher Complex, a stealth-action type thing. I remember first hearing about it in the January or February 2007 issue of OPSM UK, and those screens looked awesome. There was a leaked gameplay video that surfaced it's way to Youtube, and I think that it would have been awesome with some more work.

Starcraft Ghost. Although if it was truly as shitty as blizzard said it was, maybe that was for the best.

B.C. by Lionhead. I don't know why it got cancelled (probably to make Fable) and, given Molyneux's record for overhyping games it would most likely have been disappointing. But dammit, it was a great idea and I would have loved to have played it.

Gun Loco.

I was seriously confused about the game, and interested in just what Square Enix was gonna make out of it.

Dungeon Keeper 3.

Then Bullfrog got shut down, Molyneux went on to form Lionhead and they never really got around to making DK3.

6 days in Fallujah

SW: Battlefront 3

That's all that comes to mind right now, but I'm sure there's more.

EDIT: Just remembered another, Republic Commando 2

Six Days in Fallujah. Okay, yeah, technically it wasn't cancelled, it just lost most of it's backing, and even though I've heard rumors that it might still come out, my take has been that the situation looks pretty grim, especially since Atomic laid off most of their staff. Still, what I saw of that game made me think that it would be a really incredibly powerful piece. I felt like maybe it would make it easier to sympathize with what the guys over in Iraq are going through if I played it, that it would bring a sense of depth and immediacy to a story that, for the most part, is half way around the world from me, so I just let it be and don't pay attention.

Six Days struck me as being a serious and important game, one which, if accepted, would bring a lot of legitimacy to the medium by demonstrating how powerfully it can be used to show people what modern war is like. I really wanted to play it, and understand more than I do now, and it I really wish it had come out.

Earthworm Jim Remake for PSP
Disaster Report 4 (Yes, yes, it's a great tragedy what happened in Japan. It still looked like a teriffic game.)

Van Buren
Dungeon Keeper 3
Baldur's Gate 3
Ultima Online 2
Journey to the Centre of Arcanum
Call of Cthulhu: Beyond the Mountains of Madness

Topics like this make me be depressed generally. There've been so many great looking games that have been cancelled.
