am I too harsh on games, or did it really suck that bad. have you had a game you bought or heard about and thought it was good, only to be proven wrong?

(first LOTR games, for me, 2nd one for sure)

I was massively disappointed by Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Then GTAIV came along and my letdown feeling dropped another handful of stories.

I didn't buy it myself, but the classic example is Daikatana. Hyped to the Moon, but the gameplay didn't reach any great heights. (Not that the game itself was actively bad, I guess, just nowhere near as good as the really-obnoxious ad campaign said it would be.)

No! Naughty!, maybe the best game on PS2

Fair enough. GTA IV, wasn't great.

You totally stole my idea for my response to this thread!

Who else remembers this game? Who even played it?

I only played the demo, and I remember thinking: THIS is what they are talking about? How is this supposed to cure cancer?

It didn't.

My latest disappointment was Two Worlds. They hyped as being some super awesome new fandangled RPG to blow other RPGs out of the water. What it was was a total waste of time, money and attention. It made me want to put the controller down and go outside and interact with the world. Thats just not something I look for in a video game.

GTA IV - hated it, complete piece of crap.

LBP - I'm sorry, but this was supposed to be some massive achievement that Sony ended up ruining by deleting all the good levels.

and definitely Daikatana - I remember actually looking forward to playing it, now I wish I would've saved my money

Turning Point: Fall of Liberty and Legendary. I was expecting both to be good, but Spark let me down.(Actually, TP was decent, but I haven't played Legendary, although from what I've seen, the Game title is accurate, but not in the good way.)

I remember playing the demo for Daikatana too. I remember thinking, "This game would have been pretty good if it were up against Doom." However, it was released after Half-Life and Deus Ex. (Of course, those two games make a lot of today's games look silly)

Oh, and I should also point out that (even though my exposure was somewhat limited) I felt an incredible feeling of let-down from the entire "Metal Gear Solid" series.

Why has noone mentioned Halo 3 yet? It was hyped to hell and back and turned out to be the same thing we had all seen before. Inevitibly Duke Nukem forever will be the biggest let down of the 21st century. No way can it live up to all our expectations.

That of course is assuming that it is actually finished & released IN the 21st century. Or that its released at all.

I hyped myself to the point of fan fiction about Alone In the Dark. Look how that turned out. OK I did buy the Wii version (don't touch it), but it was bad nonetheless. I just hope that doesn't happen to Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard, because I'm really hoping that will be good.

Good point I wouldnt be surprised if when DKF was finally played it was in a virtual reality universe created by our own thoughts and broadcasted through a headset.

Biggest letdowns in history?

Three way toss up between

STAR CONTROL III
and
Master of Orion III
and
Civilization III (lesser of 3 evils)

I guess third time really wasn't the charm. Only the civilization series survives to this day.

X-Com sequals were also crap.

Halo 3 (Boy I'm so clever aren't I?)

I don't know really, Guitar Hero III wasn't all that fun for me.
