Is any game out really worth $60? Everybody keeps telling me that I need to get Halo 3, but to me it's not worth my hard earned money. (I don't have a 360, but I actually found the legendary Halo 3 pack at Circuit City last Sunday. Just a little info.)

So, does anyone know of a game that's actually worth the $60? Or a game that you'd recommend people wait till it goes down to greatest/platinum hits price?

[Note to the administrators: Sorry if this thread has been done before. I search but didn't find anything.]

Vampire the Masquerade. Worth the price of admission alone for 5th level thaumaturgy or getting the Steyr Aug to unleash against those undead hordes!

Knights of the Old Republic 2. Like Knights of The Old Republic, but with all the annoying stuff removed.

Battlefield 2. Like 15 dollars now, and it's still very fun.

Red Alert 2. Alpha Centauri. Planescape. Despite what the 'fans' will tell you, most of the Fallout games are very enjoyable. Psychonauts, naturally. Oh, the original Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six.

....recent games? Oh, oh hell no. Haven't you heard boy? This is the plunge! We've still got a decade at least before we see the light of the tunnel!
Now go play your single-gimmick, spoon-fed puzzle games and call them God like a good little Gollum!

I'll admit, I only got "Vampire the Masquerade" yesterday, but I'm already enjoying it - reminds me of Deus Ex, or something similar. Feels very fresh with its ideas too, although I do admit all the blood and stuff does make me feel abit queezy after a long while playing (I'm not good with blood, heh)

Seriously, how about The Orange Box. That's definitely worth it, what with it being 5 games in 1. Um, I'd also get Brothers in Arms for full price, but that's just because I love the series.

Not $60 but at 'Full Price' I'd say Team Fortress 2 is well worth your $20. I think it's even cheaper on Steam 2. But I like having a box.

Edit: That being said it's an even better deal as part of the orange box. Get it for PC though.

The Orange Box to is excellent - 1 short excellent game (potral), 1 longer great (But not quite excellent by a small amount) game (HL: Episode 2), and 1 superb multiplayer game (TF2)...

All for half the price of a 'normal' game. The only problem with the Orange box was the amount of time it took to be make.... Speaking of which, where's Episode 3 got too?

Orange Box, no brainer

Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3, again, no brainers.

Fallout 3 (has that appeal to me)

Halo 3 (was def worth it for me)

Oblivion

PS: Vampire the Masquerade, can someone explain that one to me and is it worth it to get the STEAM version of the title?

Think Deus Ex (1) with better graphics and larger environs and more opinions (or so it seems so far).

Or, if you don't know Deus Ex, maybe...hmm, can't really think of an exact match for it... Kinda like a FP-RPG (Mass Effect, Fable), only 'freer form'.

:( Never played Deus Ex. I missed a big portion of PC gaming because of my Genesis, then N64, then Diablo 2.

Im just now catching up to all of the great hits of post 2004. It's rough going back to the older ones, I had a topic about it yesterday.

No game is worth £40-50, which is 'full price' here in England. You think you've got it rough? $60 is roughly £30, so we pay $80-100 full price.

I'd have to agree with Vampire the Masquerade - bloodlines being a game that was worth buying at release, and would take that a step further and say that the first game in the series, Vampire the Masqurade - Requim, is also worth it.

The collecters edition of morrowind for the PC is definitly worth getting; I found the PC version much better than its console cnterpart mainly because of the modding community, there are some really elaborate and awsome mods out there.

I agree. But some games like Battlefield 2 and Call of duty 4, you might regret later.

Single player games are never worth the full price, 'cos you can buy it 12 months later for £15 and it would be just as good. But multiplayer games is a different story.

Halo 3 was worth it, I don't care about the squealing 5 year olds. I love the mute button
Oblivion was an epic game, I have over 300 hours racked upon it now. Totally worth my money.

This is why Im trying VERY hard to pass up on the "just ok" or the "good but not GREAT" games on my list because of this fact. I plan to buy Fallout 3 (the length should be worth it), Spore (same idea), Starcraft 2 (yep... duh), Diablo 3 (yep... duh), and Dawn of War 2 (I love you RELIC!)

There will be PSP games and 360 titles that swing by, but I'll let em slide. Only exception is Gears of War 2 which Ill ask for for Christmas. Free game is always worth it :D

£40-50 for XBox/console games.

£30 normal PC games, although it can range between £20-40
