This may sound bewildering at first, as this may sound like those ordinary "one game cannot satisfy everyone" forum, but hey, let's just make generalizations for the fun of it!
What certain video games have you seen that have been lauded from both the critics and consumers, as though it has no flaws and is considered more excelling than everything else and sets an example of a it's generation?
My example would include Half-Life 1/2. I am not at all implying that these two are in any way "abhorrent" or "ingenious", because of the fact that I have not played either and cannot come to a direct conclusion, but yet, I have seen that both the critics and consumers have both made a result that it was, say 11/10 score, yeah I know, a hyperbole. Whether it be gameplay, story, atmosphere, et cetera, it seemed to pull off all of them perfectly, or so I am told and have seen from let's plays.
So, I would want to see your opinions! You can list the games that you adore, as being in part with the vast majority who also loves it, of why you do so cherish it with examples and state how it's better than other games that it also been similar to(example shown in the bottom paragraph). Or if you despise it all with your cold, cold heart, you can compare the lauded game with something much more better, yet with similar characteristics and less praised. One example would include the comparison of both the (Demon's/Dark) Soul's series and the King's Field series, which ever side you are on is up to you and you only.
It might seem like one of those "Why do people like (insert your favorite game here)so much?" and vice versa as well, but oh well, I want to see how this will end(hopefully no flame wars)! Hopefully I was clear and then can make edits if this doesn't come out all too pretty.
