I'm going to go on a bit of a Sega mega drive marathon later today because I LOVE that fucking thing.

The games I will be playing all share a special place in my heart, Especially "Zombies!" (Also known on genesis as Zombies ate my neighbours)

Other games I will be playing:

Ghouls and Ghosts (Fuck yeah!)
Castle of Illusion
Batman Returns
Spiderman
Spiderman: Seperation anxiety
Kings motherfucking bounty
MORE ZOMBIES!

You know why I want to play these games? Because in the several years I've owned these games I haven't completed a single one of them and today is the day (Probably not xD ). Not to mention these games are fucking awesome!!

Which brings me on to my question. What games have you never got round to finishing (Or just plain failed every time you try to finish them)?

EDIT: WOOHOO! after 14 years I have finally beat "Zombies!" :DDD

Failed to finished because i suck at them .
Records of agrest war: zero .
Resonance of fate .

Seriously , i don't understand those too games , and usually i'm good a Jrpgs and strategy jrpgs . I'm just can't wrap my head around the combat in both games.

Games i failed to finished because i found them boring and terrible .

Final fantasy 13-2
Metroid: other M
Madworld

I have a rule , when i start a game , i must finish it . These three games are the exceptions. I cannot for the life of me finish these games due to how boring and/or stupid they are ( in my opinion of course ). Due to that rule i have massively reduced my backlog , and there only 5 unfinished games out of the 300+ console games i have . But i only counted games i started , not games i have yet to play .

I never finished Mercenaries 2: World in Flames because it is a fucking glitchy game.
GrimGrimoire because I couldn't get past Cycle 4 Day 3 without lowering the difficulty, which I refused to do.
Devil May Cry, I just got bored with it.
GTA San Andreas - great game, got sidetracked playing something else.

On an older note, I never finished the Beauty and the Beast SNES game. Talk about Nintendo Hard. Also, the Cutthroat Island game was inconceivably impossible.

Finishing that quantity of Console games is an achievement in itself... you must have one hell of a butt-imprint on your couch! But my desk-chair is just as bad :)

I also finish most games I start but there are some that I just get so bored with or become so tedious that I can't.

Dragon Age 2 - I just couldn't do it. I might load it up and power through the end just for the hell of it. I think I was close to the ending. The game is just so... BAD. Better games came along, I started one of those, and increasingly just couldn't go back.

Baldur's Gate 2 - I think this game holds some sort of record for me. It's one of my favorite RPGs... but I've never beaten it. Crashed computers and lost game saves are mostly to blame for this. When you lose your Baldur's Gate 2 saves... well for you younger kids I'll compare that to losing your Skyrim game save. Baldur's Gate 2 is just MASSIVE. Beating this game is no small feat. I've tried 3 times, and just haven't been able to do it. That said, it's one of the best RPGs I've ever played!

Final Fantasy XII - Got really near the end, but haven't beaten it yet. This is mostly because the PS2 is sitting around collecting dust hooked up to an old TV and playing it just doesn't seem fun. I have a still-shrink-wrapped copy of FFXIII that I'm ready to play when I finish XII... but from what I've heard I may not like XIII all that much. We'll see.

Most open-world sandbox games. Examples on the positive side of the spectrum include Skyrim, Prototype, Borderlands, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, and Far Cry 3.

The God of War series. I've beaten the portable ones, and I've played all three of the console ones, but never beaten any of them. The combat gets repetitive and boring to me after a few hours, and the copious number of puzzles absolutely kills the pacing to me.

Final Fantasy XIII, for reasons that I've extensively gone into in the past.

Rayman 1 for the PS1.

Don't let it's cutesy art style, it's pretty music and fun looking levels fool you, this fucking game is out for fucking blood.

The game has a crap ton of pin point precision jumps which will often cause you to die if you mess up. A lot of the enemies are incredibly difficult to bring down without losing most of your precious health. And you have both limited lives AND continues.

As far as I know, there is no way to get more continues, and you'll need them to get past the harder stages in the game. I spent all of my continues on the first major boss level and as a result, I couldn't get past Bongo Hills. Which is where the game's difficulty curve really spikes. The level is long and it's incredibly easy to mess up.

As a result, I had to restart my entire game so I didn't waste my continues on that one level. From then on, whenever I lost all my lives on one level, I just went back to the main menu instead of using up a continue and started over from my last save as I needed those continues for later levels.

And you know what the worst part of all that is? You have to get EVERY. SINGLE. GODDAMN Electoon cage in every single level in the game to have the privilege to get to the last stage in the game. And obviously, this is much easier said than done. A lot of these cages are in hard to reach places, and some of them require you to move or jump in a very specific spot to make them or objects that you have to use to get to them magically appear out of thin air. There is no way I could have figured out where half of these things are without a guide. Add that to the fact that I have to be very conservative with my lives and continues and you have one very stressful experience.

You also have to revisit several of these levels as some of the cages require you to have a specific ability that you won't get until later. And since the game doesn't let you exit a level unless you're in the first stage of said level, you'll most likely have to go through an entire level over again just to get the cages you miss.

Oh, and speaking of lives, there was this one level in which you had to out run a flood. Right before I touched the sign that takes me to the next part of the level, a 1-up appeared right behind me. I didn't have any time to react as I touched the sign right after it appeared. That's the game being a sadistic prick towards me, and that's not the only time it does that either. One time it also decided to spawn a cage right behind me before I touched the exit sign. Thankfully though, I was able to get it.

I got as far as the first level in the Cave of Skops before I finally decided to throw in the towel. Now, I do enjoy a challenge every now and then while playing games, but there's hard, and then there's nigh impossible. This game is the latter. I'm incredibly grateful that Rayman Origins made it so that you didn't have to collect ALL the electoons to get to the last stage, and that you could try again as much as you want on a certain part.

Another one for Dragon Age: Origins.

I've got fairly far twice, I need to reinstall and try and slog through the end. I want to replay Baldur's Gate but really don't want to start another RPG like that till I've finished DA:O.

Plenty of games I've dropped for just being shit and losing the motivation halfway through to finish them, I don't count those.

Games I have failed to finish just because they were too hard:

Adventure Island
Gitaroo Man on Master Mode
Resident Evil Survivor 2's goddamn dungeon mode thing, shit's mazetastic and I can't even begin to wrap my head around it. I even drew my own maps for a time and I still couldn't fucking grasp my location.
Rayman for PS1, which I think is the hardest fucking PS1-era platformer ever
Crash Bash, the world's hardest party game without question.

Currently in the process of beating Catherine good and proper. Already cleared the lofty task of getting all Golds on Hard mode, but Axis Mundi proves a strong foe even though I'm playing in Pairs mode, since Solo is literally impossible to beat.

Here's hoping Catherine doesn't end up on that relatively small list of shit I just cannot win.

I'm still striving to complete Rock of Ages, that crazy Monty Python-esque ball game from ACE, but I can only ever hold out for a level or to at a time. Story of my Steam list!

Well I would love to finish The Answer in P3: FES but... Well. It fucking sucks

There's this wretched union between the ENDLESS grinding, shitty party AI and the difficulty being stuck on Fuck You Mode that makes the entire thing frustrating as fuck. I got to the boss in the third dungeon then essentially chucked it out the window. I'm off to play some Persona 4 to remind myself what a GOOD JRPG feels like.

Now, I liked Metris as a character and it would have been nice to see how the story went on but FUCK. METRIS. STOP MAKING HIM GET BACK UP YOU RETARD. AHHH YUKARI HEAL ME NOT HER! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Hmm I do plan to finish Catherine, BlazBlue CS: EX, Okami and a few others so I won't really count them. Maybe 999 on the DS will never get finished. I didn't realise it was a game that is room after room of those old "solve obtuse puzzle, open door" Flash Games that I really don't like.

The story looks cool and in fairness the levels are actually fun (and I haven't had to look up a guide yet!) so maybe I can finish it. Obviously I will miss the True Ending because i've heard you can get fucked over by people because you missed something in their backstory or whatever.

Not counting games that I no longer own?

Well, Prinny 2: Operation Panties Dood comes to mind. Now, I actually LIKE the game, but I'm just flat-out stuck on it. See, near the end, there's a boss rush. Okay, that's not too bad by itself. But after the boss rush mode? You have to fight another kind of rush... yourself, 100 times. Yes, you have to kill 100 clones of yourself. And they all have the same abilities as you. I'm playing on EASY mode, and this part is still pretty impossible.

Then there's Final Fantasy XIII. Now, unlike others here, I actually kinda like XIII, it's just that it was SOOOO long, I couldn't finish it before something else I wanted to play came out. So I put it down, and just never got around to picking it back up. I'm sure I'll finish it one of these days.

I probably have more unfinished games than finished ones - being sidetracked back into MMOs regularly doesn't help when it comes to beating these:

Saints Row 2 and Just Cause 2 - too much screwing around exhausts my interest in these before I'm done. I'll likely revisit them.

GTA: San Andreas - the road races you have to complete before you can move onto the second city really drained me so by the time I finally finished those I was all GTA'd out. Unlikely to be revisited after all this time.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein - abandoned for years due to the one unavoidable stealth mission being utterly infuriating. Having finally beat that level I go back to it from time to time, but it's such a long game - kind of a throwback to the era when FPSs had massive singleplayer campaigns.

STALKER: SoC - great game, but I'm currently stalled in Pripyat due to difficulty and constant death-by-sniper.

Deus Ex - I feel guilty about this one, but my old pc died about 2/3 of the way through it and by the time I've sat down to retry it the unforgiving late 90s difficulty has made it feel a lot harder than it used to be.

Super Ghouls N Ghosts - I got to the end with the bracelet and ran out of time.

Super Hydlide - Got to the end once, got absolutely destroyed and left it for the day. Went to carry on with it the next and my save file had corrupted. 20 years and counting.

Rayman - I never get any further than Bongo Hills

Rayman 2 - Can't remember

Final Fantasy 2 - I worked on my stats for ages and still somehow managed to get killed in the first dungeon. I'll get back to it but I'll need to really want to finish it. I will eventually, if only so that I'll have finished I - X.

Castle of Illusion - I'm just terrible at this. I think I've gotten to the sewer or the library.

Resonance of Fate, that game bested me too.
I can't wrap my head around it at all and It's so damn unforgiving!

I got Agarest: Generations of War, which is the prequel if I remember correctly.
Still haven't finished that one either, It's just weird...
The whole combat system.

Apart from those two games I usually finish everything I start playing, though it usually takes me around a year unless It's the most interesting thing ever.

God damn that mode was hard I could finish normal mode without breaking a sweat even when I was drunk but goddamn Master mode was something else I think I only ever finished the first level on it.

Theres far too many games I have never finished so I will just list a few :-

Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 (just not my thing I could not get into them at all especially the first one)

Battletoads (seriously whoever thought that bike level was a good idea needs to be fired)

Vagrant story (like it but keep losing my saves)

Secret of Mana (right at the end then left it for a year now cant remember the controls or what to do)

Tenchu (all of them or at least the ones I have played start out awesome and then get shit replacing killable guards with decapitated unkillable heads and stuff it just kills the fun)

The Last Remnant (one of the few games I consciously stopped playing because it was so so bad and I can usually put up with crap RPG games theres usually something in their well not so here, I gave up after 40 odd hours)

Burnout 3 (good game that pissed me off hugely with the cheating A.I it hasnt been played since that fateful day and never will be again).

Mega Man I. I've been trying to beat that game for over twenty years, but I've never been able to. I've beaten every other game the series, but never the first. I can get to Wily's Castle no problem, but there's always something in that place that makes me ragequit (Usually that damn Rock Monster). Might be time for me to give it another go...
