Overwatch is freaking weird and wonderful and since a new comic was released about it, people are once again talking endlessly about how the LGBT character isn't Torbjorn (or Reaper but c'mon, that one is too obvious). I've said it a few times to friends ever since the game came out and I'll continue saying it until I eventually get the game but for a game that I've never even touched I sure do feel like I know a lot about Overwatch. Maybe it's because you can't get away from it or maybe because I really, really do want to play it and find myself looking at all of the fan art of articles but for one reason or another I know more about Overwatch than I probably should.

I dunno, I thought that's just kinda funny...aaaaaaaand I was curious about whether or not it's happened with any of you! Not necessarily about Overwatch of course but are there games out that you've never played, never touched and, only really know of by reputation or fan art or whatever that you feel you know a lot about anyway?

I?ve actually been working on my first playthrough since October, but up until then, I?d watched a ton of playthroughs of Dark Souls, speed runs and blind runs. Technically, I?d played the game for a couple of hours three years ago, but wasn?t able to progress past the very beginning (Undead Burg,) so I shelved the game until a couple months ago. In that interim, though, I?d probably seen the game played to completion 20-30 times in as many different ways before I ever truly picked it up myself. I knew the characters, bosses, locations of a scant few key items, some high-level lore, etc. It was actually what I felt to be my intimate knowledge of the game that made me want to give it a try myself. I?d seen it beaten in an hour and a half 10 times; how hard could it be, right?

Well, now I?m +60 hours in and about 20 years have been shaved off of my life due to stress and anxiety, and I?m JUST starting to collect the endgame Lord Souls; I know exactly how hard it can be. ?Seeing? and ?doing? are two completely different things?

The game... of love.

Everyone plays the game of love. There's only winners and losers, no holdouts. So you, yes you, Potjeslatinist, are a loser in the game of love.

Undertale. I first watched The Game Theory video on it and thought it was fun, but then I found Sans' version of 'Stronger Than You' on YouTube and got sucked in. While I don't know everything about the game, I've read a lot of information on it, seen tons of fan videos, and many clips from the game.

I have a good idea about a lot of little things about Dark Souls, 2 and 3...a little bit about Bloodbourne too. I've played Demon's Souls a bit but I'm not anywhere near beating that one. I've never picked up the Dark half of the Souls series but oh boy, how 'bout that Bed of Chaos?! Wasn't THAT a pain in the ass! Not like *checks smudged writing on hand* Guildencratz and Rosenstern.

Another series I'm really familiar with is Five Nights at Freddies. I've only played the first two but I've followed the lore and theories (so...the lore) that came with 3, 4 and, Sister Location. That's a case though where I would rather just read about the story of those games than go back and try playing them.

Overwatch. Grand blue fantasy. Killer instinct.

Those are the three that come to mind. With overwatch, people at work talk to me about it all the time, it's not that im not interested in buying it, i just don't have the time.

I have a friend that constantly talks about GBF, it's interesting but i cant be bothered to play a game not in english.

As for KI. It is the game i wanted to be made since KI gold on the N64. But because it's on XBONE i won't ever get to play it. I still wath Maximillian play it every chance i get.

Dead Rising. Zombies happened, and then more zombies happened. And then clowns.

Which is actually a word-for-word description of Left 4 Dead.

I don't think so. Most of the stuff I know from games I don't play come from reviews and viral videos. Maybe I have watched a LP or two, but generally I watch the ones for games I've played. And I also read game guides only for games I want to complete 100% (or when I'm stuck). Maybe BF3, thanks to Super Bunnyhop video about the single-player campaign. Or No Man's Sky, which half the Internet described the details of how bad it was.

Off the top of my head:

Blackthorne (side effect of wanting a greater variety of heroes in Heroes of the Storm)

-Call of Duty (thanks to Noah Gervais's CoD retrospective)

-Destiny (the lore is interesting, and hey, it's outside the game already ^_^)

-Killzone 3, Shadow Fall (haven't got round to playing these yet, but watched playthroughs, and I like the universe)

-Mass Effect (only played first game, but I've followed the universe since then)

-Marathon (basically the same situation as Mass Effect)

-Mortal Kombat reboot (playthrough watching)

-Overwatch (same scenario as Destiny)

-Sonic the Hedgehog (stopped playing at Rush Adventure, but I've generally kept up to speed)

-Ultima (thanks to Spoony's retrospective)

-Various Telltale games (Wolf Among Us, Walking Dead, Tales from the Borderlands, Game of Thrones), because of, you guessed it, playthroughs)

-World of Warcraft (because that's what happens when the series jumps to MMO format, but you remain invested in the setting)

I've gotten really, REALLY into Kim Justice over on youtube and that channel doesn't so much show reviews as feature-length documentaries. Thanks to that channel I've got more info on British Micro-computers than...well anywhere else. I've never played anything on the ZX Spectrum but I feel very confident when I say that games like Skool Daze, Robocop, Jetpack, and Elite are the best games you can play on that platform.

[sub][sub]Post #11300: it really a milestone as worthy as 10,000 or 15,000 but still satisfying[/sub][/sub]

The Pookeymanns. I haven't played since Gold, but I genuinely enjoy dissecting it from a safe distance through friends and the interwebs.
Overwatch. Same boat as the OP.

War hammer 40k. I find the universe fascinating, but I don't plan on purchasing expensive plastic figures, and I absolutely despise resource gathering RTS games. As interesting as the lore is, the company has yet to produce a game I would actually want to play.

Legend of Zelda *ducks a thrown lamp* Ocarina of Time *ducks a catapulted elephant*

Now hold on! *sidesteps throwing stars* I can *pirouettes around a grenade* explain!

I chose the Playstation over the N64 back in the day, and while I eventually got a Gamecube could never find a copy of Ocarina of Time that was affordable. I finally have a 3DS (well... my wife does) so I am going to get a copy soon, but before that, I still drank up all kinds of news and info about the game, and know quite a bit about it's gameplay, story, and world.

Fighting games. I used to play a lot, but I just don't have time to actually stay good with them. Though I still know quite a lot about characters, specials, combos, etc.

Hearthstone

I watch streamers play it all the time. But I like to have fun when I play my games. I'm the type of gamer that likes try interesting cool things to find a fun playstyle. The thing about hearthstone is that to use interesting cards nobody else is using, you're going to lose hard. That and these days starting out it's super difficult to have the cards needed for a competitive deck.

Arena is the mode for me because everyone is forced to construct a deck with random card selections. Arena costs admittance cash though, and the decks there these days seem more powerful than ever with common overpowered cards helping those lucky enough to get them.

I also find it oddly stressful. One single misplay could easily mean losing the game, so the pressure is on to try to think up the right move rather than making the move that would seem the most fun. It's fighting my own instincts.
