Now we all probably had this happen to us, game was hyped up, we eat up every little detail of it because it sounded awesome. It then comes out and gets fantastic reviews and everyone starts praising it.

So you put the Disc in your gaming platform. You start playing it and after 1-2 hours you just can not bring yourself to like the game, you know it's good but you just can't get into it.

So on the assumption that we've all had this happen what are your games that fit this description?

For me the games are the following, I do not say they're bad games I'm just saying that I hated every minute of playing them and despite the fact that my taste might not be very profound I'd still like you to refrain from hostility:

Oblivion. I spent months waiting for this game, when I finally got it I spent about an hour or two playing it before I realized that it will not get fun all of a sudden if it hasn't that far.

Fallout 3. Same thing basically.

Dragon Age: origins. My biggest regret and surprise. I loathed every minute I played of this game no matter how much I wanted to like it, it has a great story and it is by bioware who made ME and ME2, the two games that would make my top 5 list any day of the year.

Half Life 2: I can see that it's a great game but it doesn't stimulate my senses in any way sadly.

So, if you had an experience like this, please do share.

Page 8 EDIT: As a sign of appreciation to the Escapist community for welcoming me so well on my first thread I decided to go over ALL the replies and compose a top 10 list of letdowns, which I will update if the topic does not die.

1. Oblivion 26
2. Modern Warfare 2 22
3. Fallout 3 16
4. Half Life 2 16
5. Dragon Age Origins 14
6. GTA 4 12
7. Bioshock 10
8. Spore 10
9. FF13 10
10. Prototype 10

Mercs 2 and Oblivion

Oblivion is probably a good game but the fighting animations and movement turned me off. Mercenaries 2 promised you could blow verything up but how you do so and the gameplay itself is terrible.

Hmmm... Well the one that was the biggest let down for me, and most recent, was Final Fantasy 13. I wanted SO badly to like the game... I just couldn't. Really every FF game after 7 just didn't do it for me... hell even FF 7 didn't work out for me. I wanted to like the games, but something about them just put me off.
Also, MW2, I liked CoD 4, thought I would like MW2. I was wrong, hated every second of it.

This is something I see to much. Yes the campaign was retarded and short, but I hold massive amounts of doubt about your statement.

So you doubt that I hated MW2? Or that I liked CoD 4?

The whole Command and Conquer series that suddenly decided to jump off a cliff and land in EA, they missed hell by a few feet.

I liked both. Sure, MW2's plot makes no sense whatsoever, but you know what, I enjoyed the over-the-top set-pieces.

A game I dearly wished to enjoy and thought I'd enjoy but never could, is the first Fallout. Dice-roll combat really puts me off. The same thing happened for Morrowind.

Fallout 3, its also why i really, really hate Bethesda. I normally don;t hate companies, i mean, its futile. Damn though.

So many bugs, awkward shooting due to enemies not moving more floating wit ha moving animation. The game being riddled with bugs. The fact that the game overall is boring as hell.

White knight.

I suppose i don't hate it. I mean, it has almost everything there to make it a great game. But the fact they didn't just make the battles live action and instead went with the stupid circle thing... Killed it for me. Even that i could ignore if they just made it so you could move out of the way of attacks.

AVP 3/AVP 2010 for those who aren't living relics. AVP 2 was absolutely incredible; to date it is still my most played game ever, and even though the master servers have been shut down, I still play it through the fan codes. I'd choose it over any game, any time. AVP 3 had the gameplay down. That part was incredible. It was the complete lack of a smooth online system that ruined it for me.

Assassin's Creed 2. I loved the first one to death, one of my favorites ever, but the second was just . . . not good. Too stuffed with pointless activities, too big and not rewarding enough. I liked the first one because when I beat it, I had a sense of accomplishment. In the second, I beat it but felt like I missed out on half the game. Also, the lack of regenerating health. How are you going to have a free roam game where you can climb buildings and have fall damage without regenerating health?

I still cannot get into Oblivion. Can't really make it past a 2 hour point.

I know I'll get flamed for this, but Half-Life as well. That fact that I am stuck with a crow-bar for what seems like an eternity really bothers me. I've never even made it to the meat and potatoes of that game.

Resident Evil 5. After the masterpiece that was RE4, I was stoked for 5. But it was boring. Story was too strung out and full of plot holes, tried to hard to be a Hollywood movie, and most of all wasnt scary. It was so boring.

P.S. Chris looked like he was on more steroids then A-Rod

While "Hate" is not the best way to describe my relationship with the game ("dis-like" being a better term), I would have to say Shadow Of The Colossus. The game just never resonated with me for some reason, and I ended up dis-liking it.

You didn't like Kilzone 2? o_O
I think he is like Yahtzee and sees it as "Gears of World War 2."

I can't comment since I haven't played the game.

OT: Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 for the wii. I heard from everybody that it had the best Wii FPS controls outside of Metroid Prime 3, but what I got was a game with controls that is best described as "incased in cement."

Surprised no-one's bought up Borderlands. The multiplayer was crap, and that was the main selling point.
