My friends and family finally battered down my resistance and got me playing Farmville on Facebook and it got me thinking: Has something like this happened to anyone else, where they started playing a game not because they wanted to play it but because they got sick of all the "why aren't you playing...?" from everyone else around them?

(as if I needed another distraction in life. The Nile Online beta was bad enough!)

Kingdom Hearts was one game that my parents got me to buy. I already beat it via my brother's copy, but my mother roped me into buying my own copy after he left. It was a good game, and I know I didn't do everything ingame, so I didn't really mind getting it to play it again.

I got irritated into trying MW2. I couldn't see what the fuss was about. Same happened with Star Ocean, which one my friends was obsessed with for some bizarre reason. I didn't get past the week long opening cutscene.

Resident Evil 5.
Myself and a friend were talking about getting it and playing it on co-op for months. I never thought anything would have come of it until he showed up at my door with a copy he'd just bought for me. Bugger.

Still, good game.

WoW sadly enough. For a time pretty much everyone I knew was playing it and I didn't want to be left out.

What a bad decision that was.

World of warcraft

One of my friends got bored of playing Guild Wars so he bought WoW and forced me and two other friends to buy it so that he wouldn't have to play by himself. I didn't like the idea of leaving Guild Wars after getting used to it for a good two years and it showed, I simply couldn't get into WoW to begin with.
However I stuck with it and grew to graduallt accept it, then I started to dislike it after it got extremely grindy at near the mid-higher levels (vanilla WoW).

The previously mentioned friend went on to play a load more MMO's, but thankfully I chose not to join him.

All my friends constantly talking about how amazing RE5 was finally got me to play it, and what I played was easily one of the worst games I've played this console generation. Having those controls was a moronic decision and didn't make the game "scarier", it made them frustrating since it was always the controls, not the enemies, that got you killed, it actually managed to make the standard Resident Evil inventory system worse by making it unintuitive and awkward to use and in the single player game I'm pretty sure they programmed Sheva's AI to actively work against you. I guess the African setting was kinda neat, but instead of making the most of it the game had a tendency to stick you in boring, generic factories, warehouses and other places you've been a million times in games set in places that aren't Africa.

Final Fantasy 7. Save for #3 (Or #6, I don't care what it was called in Japan) I can't stand Final Fantasy games yet so many people, including my parents, said "PLAY THIS GAME ITS BEST GAME EVER BECAUSE BEST STORY EVER AND GAMEPLAY" and I found it boring and the story, honestly, annoyed the hell out of me.

Also, WoW. Yet another one that one of my parents and 6,000 screaming fanboys dragged me into and reminded me of how much I hate MMOs.

Someone also somehow convinced me to play E.T. with a bottle of booze.

Halo 3.

The ONLY game I was 'roped into'.

I will not say any more.
Another one here. It's not that I don't like the Halo games, I just used to be really shit at it and I hated playing it online but my brother and bloke always got me to play. Apparently 3 players is more fun than 2! -.-

EDIT: Wow this old FF7 fanatic made epic timing posting *Reads above* :p x

bioshock was the game i was roped into..

i had a good 8 friends or so talking about it, and i played fallout and a few others that were semi similar, and they were jumping down my buttcrack to buy it, so i did finally, i slowly played a good..8 hours of gameplay over 2 weeks and ended up selling it back because i hated the damn game, it was too boring and didn't real me in at all as fun

Every facebook game in existence. The only one I played for an extended period of time was Farmville though. And even that I quit. All the good stuff they release costs real money, wtf?

Other than that, Kingdom Hearts. I love everything Disney except that stupid game...well, and anything that comes from the cable channel, obviously. :)

People are still trying to get me to play Burnout Paradise, and though I'm sure it's great, I'm not into those kind of games.
