Gamespot Gives Its Second 1.0/10 Score Ever to Ride to Hell: Retribution

One look at the Metascore for Ride to Hell: Retribution tells you it's a genuinely terrible game.

But Gamespot has surely rocketed it into the pantheon of the worst games of all time by giving the PC version a 1.0/10, a score it shares only with the infamous Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. It's been nearly 10 years since Big Rigs and Ride to Hell is, in Gamespot's opinion, the first game to match its level of badness.

Quite an accomplishment, when you think about it!

Just watching the actual review video and seeing the glitches looks like it might actually deserve that rating after all.

Pretty good hair animations. It does look truly awful, that said if there comes a time when it's under £3 I'm buying it. I'm hoping it's one of those so bad it's good deals. I'm always rooting for the under dog, I believe in you Ride to Hell: Retribution.

I think there's something wrong with me. I find the sheer awfulness of this game is lot more compelling than the reliable mediocrity of <insert generic third person action/adventure game in the 7-8/10 range>.

I'm not convinced that's worth a 1.0. Big Rigs was literally unplayable. It was a racing game where the enemy AI never ever moved, that promised police chases and didn't actually include any police and the racing had no physics whatsoever, including infinite reversing.

This is at the very least, 3x as good as that because the enemies actually fight you, the racing has chases, the vehicles move in a way passing for competence. It still looks enjoyably terrible, but terrible on a functional and 'not very well designed' level. 3 and 4's, maybe a 2 if it really does crash that frequently. But not a 1

if big rigs is a 1.0 then this is worth more. at least this game is playable despite gliches. but beside that, yeah........ this wont really do. still, tis fun to know they still make such horrible games around, i though the tradition was dead.

That's what i was thinking. This game doesn't look like it deserves 1/10 at all. Maybe a 3/10.

The combat isn't good, but at least it looks at least sort of passable. It had an interesting way of dealing with staying in cover by making you still vulnerable whilst in cover. It has some interactivity with the environment for combat. It also has skippable cutscenes.
It doesn't look good and everything looks irradiated, but so do most games that try to look realistic.

This is why i don't like review websites.

Looks more like the popular game mags are trying to prove they can still be edgy and critical.

The game undoubtably deserves a low score, but this is the biggest overraction in game journalism since Jim Sterling gave a 2 out of 10 to Alpha Protocol.

The lowest score should be reserved for trash like Big Rigs: commercial games that truly fail the worst possible on every level.
This new shit is atleast a 2 out of 10. Anything below a 7/10 or a C, is a low score already. The 1 to 6 range is where the reviewer can afford to be negatively accurate.

Man, I'm surprised at how people are arguing that this game deserves a slightly higher score, like a 2 out of 10. It's not like there is really that much of a difference between those scores, but at least with a 1/10 Big Rigs finally has a friend.

I feel like a 1 should be a completely unplayable game from a technical standpoint. If the score is from 1-10, 1 should be the absolute worst games of all time. I'm not saying this is much better, but the fact that there is actual working gameplay footage that doesn't look like it is still in the concept stages tells me that a 1 is not proper here.

I'm usually quite forgiving with games (I actually enjoyed DNF a fair bit XD) But yeah, this doesn't look great.


That said we really need a new score system or something. Its clear numbers don't work anymore since anything less than a "7" is considered the worset kind of shit.


There used to be a mag a while ago that simply said "buy", "rent/ wait for sale" and "avoid". That would work much better I think.

The thing is, it's only the SECOND 1/10 they've ever given out, and the first one really did deserve it.

I believe them that it's that bad, and that scares me.

But yeah the game is kinda bad.. really bad. Is 1/10 to low? Maybe it depends how you see it. The problem with the game is that it isn't fun to play, the controls are not nice, the story is eurgh.. ya know.. everything in it is busted.

I mean technically you can play it, but you don't desire to play it!

So is it worth 1/10 probably!

More then 11 hours of this Ride to Hell: Retribution. Trust me watching this play through in one run is impossible.

Of course, the fact that there's only been two titles to get this honour from this source should be an indicator. It should tell you they don't drop this lightly. This was mentioned in the OP and the title, so I'm sure you noticed.

From the review this looks like a terrible game, but nowhere near as bad as Big Rigs. You have to remember that Big Rigs had no collision detection, you could drive through bridges, buildings and sometimes mountains. This game looks like it is at least has playable. I'd probably put it at 2-4 but then I've not played it, so maybe it really is worthy of a 1/10?
