Gaming- bad for the soul?

I know this thread is way too close to my recent one, But I just remembered that on the radio last week I heard that 'scientists and experts' are trying to prove a link between gaming and being anti-social and aggressive. What do you think about this?

I take out my frustrations and anger out on games, I shout at them, I tell them how they are my ***** and when I'm done I go back to my normal life feeling clam and serene.

I have to say though my girlfriend does not appricate how loud I get when playing.

I disagree with allegations that gaming MAKES people anti-social. My belief is that people that are naturally anti-social are drawn to gaming and are the primary market that enjoys gaming. Its a case of nature over nurture.

As for aggressive...
I think games possibly give aggressive people a place to vent... which would make them a positive influence on society as they are not really doing any harm by destroying 3D characters on a screen. This is quite a preferable outcome, rather than them taking out their aggression on people.

As far as I can remember I've always both been anti-social and played games.

Which genre of games are they talking about? Racing and FPSs could add to someone's aggression more than an adventure game perhaps.

It wasn't just video games that made me "anti-social" either.

Both popular and unpopular people play video games I think.

If you're antisocial and aggressive, many people won't like you and you'll find it harder to fit in so you will use games to fill your spare time. I think increased time on games is a result rather than the cause.

If anything it helps my social life. If it wasn't for my absurdly large collection of games I wouldn't have as many friends.

There's nothing more social than playing that NES Chip n Dale with a friend. And swatting my friend with a pillow when he chucks me off a ledge.

This is very much a point I agree with sir! Surely you and I are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more qualified to talk about who gamers are and what motivates them?

it depends on the person, the real problem is all the retards who use these studies do baddmouth gamers and make us look like a bunch of angry small children (instead of the reasonable adults most of us are) and try and yet again put a black mark on the industry, thats right im looking at you WoW
