Hello all.

I'll cut straight to the point.
I have an old pc just sitting around since I got my new one, it's still damn good but I can't think of a possible use for it, I gave my parents my PC before the one we are discussing and they only use it for internet so 4gb of RAM and a Nvidia 275 would kinda just sit there if I gave it to them this time.

What I was thinking to do is convert it into some sort of Media Centre type thing as both a project to get me more familiar with pc building and as something to do with the damn thing.

Can anyone help me out with this? I'll figure out the building but what I need more is an idea of what to get for this and what to keep and what to get rid of.

I'd like something that I could place with my tv, don't want a tower in my room etc, so need to find a nice case, and the components to fit inside and make it run well..

Don't want to compromise on things so please suggest what you want.

Here's what is currently inside it:
PSU: (this ones a guess) 1xxx high quality PSU (its fucking huge though so i guess its out)
Graphics Card: Nvidia 275
RAM: 4gb
HDD: 150gb 10,000 rpm drive and 500gb storage drive (should probably change these for ssd as they are loud as fuck)
Fan: Corsair I believe, very big expensive fan I got at the time, that will have to go too most likely.

Thanks for any help, I am open to any suggestions.

mITX form factor gear is probably your best bet for building HTPCs/media PCs. It's what most hardware manufacturers are pushing their HTPC gear on. Not cheap but it's mostly quiet and energy efficient.

If, OTOH, you want to keep more of your existing kit, your best bet is probably a uATX cube case and uATX form factor mobo.
