Here's a system for about £1000 (when the operating system is added into the equation).

£1000! I'm getting a bloody Sandman comic you lucky bastard!

If you read PC Gamer, I'd go for their custom rig. Otherwise, you could try Alienware if they have anything that price range.

Wow, i wish i got jack shit for my grades. Ive been a 97/98 student my entire life, just scored in the 96th percentile on the SAT, and didnt see a cent. My sister PASSES a high math class that I had a 95 average in, and she gets a $300 field hockey stick.

How many times do I have to say this in a day? Never buy Alienware.
Over priced cases! Wooo! There are plenty of easy PC costuming sites like ibuypower.com

Just print off an alienware sticker and slap it on your pc.

Seconded. If you're in the UK, Overclockers UK is a great place to buy from. Do you know your way around a PC? If so, building one will cost a lot less than getting a pre-built model. If you want any tips, give me a shout.

If you've got the time to build the PC yourself, Hardware Thread [http://www.scan.co.uk] for parts advice (also relevant to pre-built PCs). If you're gaming, go for broke on the video card. Nine times out of ten, that's the component holding game performance back.

a 'good' PC setup for that price would be something like I have:

Intel Q8200 Quad-Core CPU
Nvidia Geforce 9800GT
4GB RAM (2x 2GB)
Gigabyte GA-EP31-DSL Motherboard
Western Digital 320GB HDD (stupid mistake for me, I should have got a 1TB one for a slightly higher price)
Nice expensive case with a bunch of fans
550w PSU

This cost me 1300 Australian dollars, not including the monitor, decent Sony headphones I bought after (no speakers) and basic mouse and keyboard.. and it translates to 669 British pounds. This has been able to play everything I've thrown at it on highest settings (with the exception of Crysis and Far Cry 2 which are both still on 'high' settings) in 1920x1080 resolution and at least 2x AA at reasonable frame rates. There is really no need to buy anything better for the sake of a couple of games unless you're a complete graphics and frame rates whore, but with that extra cash you could get the higher-end Geforce card or a more expensive CPU... Or maybe buy something non-computer related.. :p

Either way, this PC is a good base to start on because I've been very pleased with it so far, and I game a lot these days. Good luck!
