Now, when I say relationship, I dont nessacarily mean the hero getting the girl in a Nathan Drake, Elana Fisher kind of way. I mean two or more characters who's conversations sizzle with tension, whos interaction is always a high point during the narrative. I mean deep, and well told character interaction on any level. Romantic, rivals, partners, sworn enemies, brief meetings, friendships.....

ICO and his touching relationship with Yorda?
Kratos and his bitter fued with Zues?
Altair treading dangerous water with Al Mualim?
Desmond Miles and his romantic tension with Lucy Stillman?
Soap and his 'mentor-student' relationship with Cpt. Price?

The list goes on and on, so who do you think was the most entertaining gaming relationship and why?

Wander and Agro in Shadow of the Colossus. I have no reason. No dialogue, but a touching relationship.

For the record, I personally like the relationship between Conker the Squirrel and Rodent. Conker and anyone really.

Damn you...

Another example, another example...

The Prinny Squad and Etna?

The Prinnies are hilarious and sarcastic, and Etna wished pain, misery, and death upon all of them!

Probably Fontaine and Ryan in Bioshock.

Actually any two people in bioshock, there's always a strong relationship between them, even with minor characters.

i'd disagree with soap because it's very one way, if i had to suggest one, i'd go with gears of war, and delta team, specificaly marcus and dom though baird and cole are fairly amusing too

altair and malik. how they started, how they ended, and the natural progression between it was believable and by the end heart warming.

Leon and Ashley, perhaps? Or Subject Delta and Eleanor, maybe?

I dunno, there are not that many relationships in the games I've played that you really take notice of.

I always quite liked the back and forth between the squad leaders in Dawn of War 2.

But my favourite character interactions have always been in the KotOR series, specifically the relationship between your character and Kreia

{especially when she betrays your at the end, I was abit like WTF}

also you and your dog in Fable II i was upset when he died...

I find Jaheira and Aerie's relationship in Baldur's Gate 2 very fun. They are constantly bitching/nagging at each other in well-scripted dialogue, (especially good if your hitting on one of them).

Allister and Loghain form Dragon Age maybe? No. Loghain cares nothing for Allis-

Ah! Got it. Allister and Wynne. Practically a Grandmom-Grandkid Interaction.

Anyone and anyone in Planescape: Torment. But especially the Nameless One and Annah.

Shepard and Ashley as a romantic interest in Mass Effect 1

Their two personalities bounded off each other and over the course of the story they grew to fall in love in a way that was very real and believable and Shepard's influence with Ashley changed her worldview for the better.

I have yet to have seen a better in game romance in my own opinon.

Also must mention Shepard and Wrex and Garrus, truly a great example of buddiness.

Also, the essence of great characterisation (not nececarily all the depth) was present in Halo 3 with the bond between Chief and Cortana but more notably the shaky to steady alliance with the Arbiter. While it could have been more fleshed out it was certainly interesting.

I'm going to have to break the flow here and volenteer the entire web of Baldur's Gate 2 characters. The character banter between all of them was a high point for me.

In more recent games, I guess I enjoyed Alastair and Morrigan's little spars.

Kreia doesn't betray you, she has been guiding you the whole time to defeat her. She is an amazing character and can be very misunderstood! :) The relationship is complicated.

Marcus and Dominic, then there's Cole Baird as well.
