So I recieved my Gears of War 2 on opening day on friday, limited edition ( Thanks sis). So since I thought gears the original was an okay game, I thought two would still just be okay. I wasnt wrong, but I wasnt right.

So when I got back from school, my game awaitng me like a happy puppy, I coudln't wait to start playing. So I grabbed some soda, my robe, my ducky slippers, and nesteled in for the day of gaming.

So I started campaign, and one thing struck me immediatly. " My my my,gears you look beautiful today" Which was true. The original grey-brown filter has been replaced by a lot more organic and alive scenary. Its not always pitch black night, and the environments are pretty well detailed compared to the original. So we start off campaign as Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago teaching the new Carmine how to shoot, duck, and how to kill monkey-dog things. Immediatly after you are thrust into the usual gears running through buildings, stopping to cover, and blow some locust heads open. Blah blah blah we have seen this before. Which is what the first mission feels like. After words, the story continues to grow on a more epic scale. Reavers randomly come down and cause some major shit to go down. The addition of new enemies, including new forms of bommers, like the mauler, butcher, and the grinder add a more oh shit quality to the game. Also remeber the brumak mission on gears for the PC. Remember how that was the OH snap look whats pc's got haha? The gears two shat on that. You are constantly running into Brumaks, each time killing them in a different way. In general the small squad based combat has evolved into a more of an actual war. The gameplay hasnt really changed much, it has just been fine-tuned. New weapons are added obviosuly, which adds some flavor into the Gears of war soup, without tainting it. If Gears of war was a woman, gears two would be the same woman, except with breast implants, and maybe some lipo.

The story, unlike in the original, is existant. They tried to make the characters seem more human and less " Beep boop I enjoy killing things" monkey-men. And sadly they didnt do it well. The voice acting is still meh. At points, it was like the voice actor for Marcus Fenix was trying to sound like a brick wall. Even when ((((OMG SPOILERS)) you find dom's wife has been mind fucked to death by the locusts, and dom's character begins to become actually human, and you begin to feel for him, Marcus The brick boy Fenix returns and totally kills it. The additon of the story behind Dom trying to find his wife seems rather tacked on. If they atleast hinted at it in the original it would've made sence. They randomly thrusted it into the story, expecting for us to just accept it as truth, and go one living. They didnt even develop it over the game. At points they would randomly say " oh btw b4 we kill dems locust we need to gets ma lady yo" and it just didnt meld into the story. Another point is when they try to make you sad by showing a character (not gonna say which one) commit suicide after being tortured by the locust. It kinda felt like they just added that to try to say the story is deep. Its like "emo" teenagers, drawing fake slits on their wrists. It just made it seem like a pretender.

Multiplayer also has had some minor changes done to it, and added some new content. For one, they added three new game types. Submission, which is a twist on the classic capture the flag game. Its the same, except the flag can shoot and kill you. You have to down the Stranded/flag and use him as a meatshield back to the designated return spot. Its pretty intense when you get into it, and can also be really entertaining. The sheer amount of smack-talk you can give your friends who had their faces beaten in by this cpu is limitless. Another new addition is king of the hill. Its pretty much annex, except instead of the hill constatly changing, it just stays their the whole time, and someone on your team must always be in it to score points. And guardian, is just still assasination, kill the leader and ya win, but just like the rest of gears, it has a twist. Your enemy team constatly respawns until you kill their leader. Multiplayer has apparently been spending its free time with its girlfriend halo too often, since the multiplayer search engine is almost identical. And the connection on Multiplayer is horrible right now. It took My friends and I ( Ho Ho looks like 6th grade english payed off) 10 minutes just to find a final member for horde.

I feel this game mode deserves its own paragraph. Horde is a 5 player game in which you and your friends fight off constant waves of locusts charging at you on a difficutly and level of your choice. And its defitnly not a cake walk. If you try it on hardcore or insane, you and your friends are going to seriously have your communication and teamwork skills tested. This really is the standout part of gears two for me. But I do have small nitpicks. One is that you go through the same ten waves over and over again, with the same locusts, but they just get stronger each time. Its monotonous, and some variety could've easily taken care of that. Its also very hard to do publicly. If your by your self with some strangers, its almost a guarantee you wont do well. You need to know your fellow horders. Their skills their weaknesses. I really enjoyed this section of the game, only is they polished it more it could've really been great

In conclusion, Gears of war 2 is just a makeup job. An well done makeup job, but a makeup job none the less. If you didnt like Gears of War you wont like Gears of War 2. IT defintly wont cause you to see the light a shinin bright, and make you pray for forgiveness for calling gears a bad game. But maybe give it a go. Dont knock it till ya try it.

( Btw this is my first real review so please.....be gentle)

Ok, besides the grammatical errors (like frequently forgetting to use apostrophes), you also confused me starting on the first paragraph. You said you weren't wrong but you weren't right, which honestly makes no sense, especially when you admit the game is just okay at the end. You also forget to use end punctuation at least once, and I don't want to reread to see if you do it again.

It was a fairly good review, better then my anyway. Just try to run it through a word processor before you post another review and work on your grammar a bit and you'll be fine.
Thanks, by the way, I was on the fence about this game and now I know I won't get it, I didn't like the first Gears, and I won't like this one.

I thought it was a very well done review except for this little excerpt. If you actually pay attention in Gears 1 they do hint at Dom's wife, many times.

But all in all good job.
