Dementium: The Ward.
This was one of the first games I got for my DS. I had heard it was like Silent Hill, and being a Silent Hill fan I thought I would try it out. The first thing that struck me was the retarded control system. You move with the D-Pad, and pan by dragging your stylus across the touch screen. This control system takes some getting used to, and can be mastered. But the thing is, why not turn using the Left and Right triggers. Although given that you can?t hold down A for continuous fire makes that idea not work so well. Instead the triggers are used to cycle through weapons, even though you can do this by selecting the weapon on the touch screen. Another thing that bugged my was the fact that if you died you had to start back at the beginning of the chapter, but if you just turn it off, you will start at the last door you entered. This brings me to my next point, the story. I believe that chapter based games should be reserved for games with actual story. Dementium?s story is, you wake up on the top floor of a hospital that has gone to shit, and you have to find your way out. Not once does the game explain what the hell is going on, and there is also a Pyramid Head wanna be, his name is The Clever. Every part of the hospital looks the same, and there are enough linen closets to hide all the cloths in a Chinese sweat shop. Finally the boss is a guy you only see in the beginning cut scene, and never mentioned throughout the game. The ending is also very anti-climatic and leaves the story wide open. Honestly I don?t think a first person shooter should be on anything without a joy stick. All in all, I did have some fun, enough to go back and do a speed run. Even though it has a lot of things going against it, I suggest renting it just for the novelty of playing a game this bad. It is a blatant Silent Hill knock off, although it does not achieve that. It even says that it is trying to be Silent Hill on the freaking box.
Rating- Rental.
