So my Xbox live gold membership recently ran out, and I am sitting here staring at amazon.com and wondering why im about to pay 50 bucks for another year of online gaming, sony got it right, god even nintendo got it right, but the cash cow that is microsoft is just unwilling to get its gold soaked hands off the piggy bank! anyone agree?

They're hedging their bets that you'll be willing to pay for online services. They tend to eb correct in this. They get money, which is their goal.

Fair to the costumers? Maybe not. A fiscally sound plan? Hell yea.

As an aside, didn't 360's used to come with a free Gold Membership card? Like, a 2 week trial or something.

That's what I thought. I bought one and didn't anything. Then had to replace it in store, still nothing. Now I'm mad and tired! To bed, then complain to Microsoft and/or eat some ice cream.

It's not a card. Whenever you make an Xbox Live account, get a 1 month trial to Live. When you make one, don't go for the gold options. Select the "I don't want a gold membership" and you'll be given a month of gold anyway.

From what I have heard, the wireless adapter is very bad at receiving a signal.

It's far easier to use a ethernet to powerline adapter, which essentially gives you the same signal strength as if you were to plug your 360 straight into your router and you can get them for $50. A much better deal IMO.

with sony i was implying psp and ps3, i dont have a ps3, though i have had much experience with it online, but i can get hours of fun out of the little handheld machine that is the psp, and on another note, whenever you release anything online theres bound to be hackers everywhere, take halo 3 for example, i remeber starting a game once and insta-spwan dieing over and over, as hilarious as it is it happens everywhere and its hard to prevent, seems every game i play is over-run by hackers (mabye thats because i play an acclaim game) but....... wait im ranting.... better stop.....

I might actually have to buy one myself, but through the art of google i decided id find it alot cheaper, and after about 5 minutes i came up with this http://www.cowboom.com/store/productDetails.cfm?contentID=71475 better than the 100 bucks they charge at microsoft and for those to lazy to copy and paste the link, its 56.50 (much better deal)

How close is your 360 to your router? That's most of the issue when it comes to signal strength. If it's close enough, like in the next room, I'm sure it works as advertised. I still wouldn't pay $100 for it though. I'm far too cheap.

Paying for online is what lets them provide the best service of the major consoles.
What we really should get on Microsoft for is charging money for icons and backgrounds the PS3 has for free.

That way is equally effective and cheaper, but the wirless adapter is really space saving, and it's always worked great for me.

what pisses me off though is they could easily provide multiplayer online gaming for free for gods sake its microsoft, they could easily maker enough off downloadable content to support themselves, yet they feel the need to chrage millions upon millions of people 50 dollars a year for it.
