Today I tried getting Xbox Live with one of those point cards... and it was the wrong type of card...and I realized it after I had used it. So I'm wondering if I can upgrade from silver to gold membership using 4000 Microsoft points.

Sorry as far as I'm aware you can't do that. However you could always try selling the card and making your money back?

It's been a while since I've been on live so things might have changed but as far as I'm aware your stuck with your points. However if i was you the first thing i would do is either see can i return the card to the shop, or buy Limbo.
