Girl Gamers - the final discussion

Yo.

So I've been somewhat offended by the amount of 'girl gamer' threads appearing over recent days/weeks. It's a minority, but an aggressively stupid discussion. Here's the bottom line:

Gamers have their skills by a combination of reflexes, natural talent, strategy and above all, practice. Neither of these traits are stronger or weaker between the genders.

It's just sexist to so much as imply that girls or guys are better or worse at games. I've met people of both genders who range from ultra-pro to plain shite, and when I can't see faces or hear voices, I can't tell the difference. In fact I dated a girl a while back and she was just as nerdy and up-all-night-gaming as any gaming nerd. It's probably why we got along so well, but that's the same as any other couple who share interests.

But really, the problem lies with the people who inflate the stereotypes - the guys who go nuts for 'girl gamers', and the girls who exploit it for game items, levelling or just plain attention.

tl;dr - girls are equal in games as guys. We don't need to talk about it anymore.

Pretty sure the main reason guys appear to be better is because they are more likely to spend long hours on a game. Also because there are less girl gamers even if they follow the same skill distribution there will not be as many girls up the top end.

The fact that you made a thread on this almost proves that this won't be the final discussion.

The more girl gamers, the merrier!

I could care less about skills, knowledge and who's better than whom. If they're having fun and enjoying themselves, who am I to debate the gender issue on this? If they enjoy Yu-Gi-Oh, M:TG, D&D, video games or whatnot, that's fine - and I would like in on that action! Good way to get to know someone, IMO.

Some people still believe the earth is flat and that man never set foot on the moon.
What is sad is that there really is a "Flat Earth Society" and many conspiracy theorists who say we never landed on the moon.

On topic however, I have known plenty of girls who were capable gamers, some who were very skilled gamers, and some who were downright awful, same goes for the guys I know. Reminds me of a saying my junior high physical education teacher Mr. Fule liked to say "Excellence knows no gender" Not just pretty words.

But...But...girls are those spiteful creatures that laugh at me! How could they be good at my hobby?
The typical mindset of someone who think girls are inherently inferior at playing video games.

I don't make a big deal that female gamers exist.

But I will make a happy deal if I meet one with the same tastes. Most of the ones I know only play RPGs.

If you're considering "girl gamers" to be a separate entity from "gamers" you're already doing it wrong.

This.

I still expect another thread on this to be up when I return in 9 hours.
Oh, and just saying, I think a lot of the discussion (read: misunderstanding) lies in the fact that there are simply less girl gamers, but hey.

Well, it's nice to hear from the world's only authority on gender equality. Thank you for settling this argument once and for all. Thanks to your input, I'm sure this conversation will never happen again.

Seriously, though, do you understand why this is still an issue? If you've read any of the threads, you'll know that most people do agree that gaming skill isn't dictated by gender. However, a lot of the discussion centers around why female gamers are treated the way they are and what the online gaming community can do to try and fix the situation.

It takes more than saying "It's all fixed now." to actually fix something.

..Girls have boobies.
And they play video games.

Why the hell did we ever need to argue about those two particulars....?

Yeah right.

You can get offended that the wind blows and claim you're making the "final discussion" on it, but the wind is going to blow tommorrow whether you like it or not.

From this point on, we are now the gender we choose to play in games.

Congratulations! An over 9000 percent increase in female gamers!

Because there isn't a force on this earth that can cause a man's brain to over-ride the needs of his testicles.

Self control
Will power
Respect for other human beings
The ability to view a woman as more than just a set of reproductive organs

Apparently I employ unearthly forces on a regular basis to prevent myself from bludgeoning every attractive female I meet with my needy genitalia.

You'd think, but the Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory teaches us that normal people, when anonymous, can be total completely beyond the realm of common sense and social courtesy.
You're more of the exception than the rule, unfortunately.
This goes the same for women who exploit this theory.
