I have to make a website for one of my Design Interface class and I need input from the intended audience it appeals to: women interested in video games. Now, I'm not sure how many girls are on this site but every piece of information is valuable so here's what I'd like to know.

So, Who are you? Where do you live(country/state)? How old are you? What other interests do you have? Do you identify with any particular subcultures? What kind of music and styles are you int? Are you single, married or divorced? How much money do you make a year/ how much does your family make(if they buy your games)? Whats your educational background? Do you buy your games or does someone else. Do you borrow/rent/pirate the games you play?

Do you consider yourself a hardcore gamer, casual, or are you just beginning to nurture your budding interests in games. How good is your computer and how often do you go online? What genres of games do you like? What are some of your favorite games? Do you like retro games/ cutting edge games/ flash games/ simple ad games/ forum games?

If a site were to be made for you: the female gamer, how would you like it to look, what kinds of features would you like it to have, would you like complex navigation or would you like it simple and to the point?

If you don't feel confortable answering some questions posed that's perfectly fine, any information I can get would be helpful. I'm not interested in how males really feel about girl gamers so, guys, if you could keep that to a minimum. However if you have girlfriends/female friends that are into this stuff, I'd like to hear from them too.

Hope I posted this in the right board and didn't offend any rules :x

Because as we all know, people just love to post personal details, such as where they live, on the internet, for everyone to see.

Isn't it a bit sexist to be targeting girl gamers as seperate anyways, with wholly different tastes in a website than guys? Why can't we all just be one group of gamers? I think what you're missing here is that girl gamers and just the same as guy gamers, and are completely varied amongst themselves. You'll find hardcore and casual gamers, chicks that dig FPSs or RPGs. They're from all across the globe and all ages. I think your website would do better as treating them as just people first, and not a stereotype.

I'm asking actual people so that it isn't a stereotype. I need to know what a wide variety of women want. Sure, there are many game sites that try to be androgynous, and even more targeted solely at the male demographic, but I could only find two that actually targeted women specifically and one of the was a group on livejournal. I think it stands that there should be a place where women can feel like they're the dominant voice of the website and in order to make that I need to know what they like and don't like about the gaming industry and who they are.

Who cares? It's not like female gamers are something special. Maybe 40 years ago, but now female gamers aren't a rarity any more. In my opinion, there are only two dichotomies of gamers and it's not male-female. Pro and Joe, hardcore and n00b, competitive and casual. Call it what you will.
Wow, you are really missing the point here. The fact that women aren't a rarity is why I'm making the site and I don't care about hardcore/casual/whatever. What I care about is what women would personally like out of a video game site geared to their specific interests. This is a graphic design class thats supposed to exercise my ability to create a marketable theme to a specific demographic.

FEMALES? VIDEO GAMES?

WHY, SIR, DO YOU TALK IN IMPOSSIBILITIES?

...

Now I want to take a gun to my head and a noose to my neck.

Dude, I'm talking to girls in real life about this too. Anyway I'm not a total sap, I can discern between outlandish and true.

Being a gamer girl myself, I concur with the previous replies pointing out that trying to make generalizations out of the tastes of half of the friggin human population is absolutely retarded.
Just let your graphic design class teacher that his "specific demographic" thinks he's a moron.
Either that or just go for a pink-themed website advertising pony mods for The Sims.

this comment will be fully true in 15 years

because still when i find out that a girl likes playing games and thier good games and plays them frequently and the fact that she is a girl is actually still pretty shocking

Tbh it doesnt matter who you were going to ask noone is going to give that sort of list of personal details, its just a stupid thing to do. If it wasnt a public forum you might stand a chance of getting replies. But noones going to put them where anyone can see.
