I started playing when I was in grade school around the time visions was already out. I remember my first real set that I actually bought a lot of was Tempest. From there it snowballed to many many years til after highschool in which I took a long break and then came back shortly after college. As far as the new sets go I have not taken a liking into the direction Wizards is taking the game. The flip cards in Dark Ascension I found were really gimmicky and at worst annoying to play with. Really you want me to keep a checklist in my deck to keep track of it? Sleeves help combat that but then you need to take it out turn it around blah blah. Just hasn't been sitting well with me and with that I'm ready to keep my memories and call it quits.

Now I know the Escapist community has a lot of MTG players in it's ranks and with that I wanted to share with you my ebay listing I have put up for my collection. I just recently updated it with a list of rares since that was commonly asked. This collection would be good for any player starting, picking back up, or just plain deck builder. Collectors look elsewhere cause you won't find full sets in here.

I know I'm probably not alone with the disappointment factor of MTG these days but I am throwing in the towel. I've spent thousands over the many years and my collection has changed through them years but this is what I got left.

You might want to try selling the rares individually.

The reason everybody asked you for a list of the rares is because 99% of the time it's only the rares that are worth anything. Commons/Uncommons/Lands are always bought/sold in bulk with a few exceptional Uncommons (maybe 1 of those every 2 or 3 sets) that are worth more than $.50.

Check with your local gaming store. I sold off all of my Uncommons/Commons/Lands for $50 (probably 2000+), and that was a steal.

Sold the rest of my rares individually for $850, but I had some very powerful and very valuable cards (Dual Lands, Revised, a full play set of Vindicate). The vast majority of the rares I had went for less than $0.75, and I still have some absolutely worthless ones leftover that I'm just going to give away.

Yeah, I was big into Magic from Beta up until Tempest / Visions...tried to get back into it recently and really just couldn't get into the new stuff and people getting REALLY crazy about older cards being totally banned (even crazy things like the elves from Ice Age..)

It seems the mass majority of the card sellers online have undervalued rares for quite some time enough to make the market not really worth anything. I don't really have the time to sell the rares individually so that's why I just threw up a lot for a decent price. Not really worried about making much from it just a lil extra pocket money but thanks for the suggestion if I don't get rid of it I'll check the local gaming store.

Ya the banning of the old cards I found odd since the new ones are drastically overpowered and seem to keep being overpowered as they come out. It used to be skill and strategy, sure it still is but when you have a card that wipes the table clean it just seems like the difficulty got dropped to nil.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Well, I said that because that's pretty much whoever you sell it to is going to be looking at. The commons/uncommons are simply non-entities. If someone wants to buy your collection, they're going to look at your Rares for the dozen or so on their list they want, and then decide if the rest is worth it.

I don't know the recent sets well enough to tell you what Rares are valuable out of what's listed; I got out at Mirrodin and sold my collection last week after letting it sit in the closet, but I didn't personally see any cards I recognized as "worth more than $20" type cards - which are the only types people will buy entire collections for (most people who buy collections are just looking to turn around and sell the Rares individually anyways).

So, I know you want to make a quick buck, but I don't think selling the entire thing on eBay is the way to go. Either sell the Rares individually and the Uncommons/Commons as bulk, or sell the entire collection as bulk to your FLGS. Unless you have some awesome Rares in there (again, I don't know the sets well enough to tell), you might get about $50 for the lot.

You could also just give it to a kid just starting out if you're feeling altruistic.
