For any of you people who know THIS freaky-ass final boss.

You probably understand that there's still a debate over him.

How many of you think Giygas is actually evil or that he was just a misunderstood fetus trying to make friends, but was attacked instead?

His corrupting influence was capable of transcending time and space, turning taxis into living creatures and having them attack me.

Yes, he was evil. No, I don't care that his sprite looks like a fetus when you look at it a certain way. Frankly, I think trying to understand the ending of Earthbound is pretty futile. Don't think about it to hard, you'll get a lot of weird mental images.

Nope, pure evil. It has always been Giygas's intent to destroy the human race, but since he was raised by human parents, he still felt feelings of love and respect and couldn't bring himself to do it. In an attempt to overcome these emotions, he did...whatever he did to gain tremendous evil power and strip himself of all emotion (and everything else defineable by human standards). This is a guy who is so evil, he destroyed his own physical being just to complete his mission. Also, in Buzz-buzz's future he doesn't stop there, he initiates a universal apocalypse.

he's a corrupted evil weird demon fetus thing, that was inspired by a rape scene in a movie the developer saw when he was 10.
I don't care if it's good or evil just

I thought he was actually good in the first one though
No, he was there to destroy the human race for stealing the secrets of Psi. But Ninten sings the lullaby that Giygas' human mother used to sing him. This caused his emotions of love for his parents to make him incapable of going through with it.

The entire thing about Giygas, his entire race for power in EB, is the fact that he thought he had to destroy the human race reluctantly. He became the ultimate evil... thing. But he couldn't control it. And whatever was left of him from the NES game is gone. He's more to be pitied than anything.

It wasn't actually a rape scene, Itoi just thought it was.

Basically, if I can remember correctly, Giygas couldn't understand the concept of love. His adopted mother tried to show him some, but it hurt him so much he lost his sense of self and became what everyone has seen in Mother 2. I think.

Just chiming in to show off my avatar.

OT: Of course he is evil. As others have said, he was trying to destroy the human race. Are you doubting Ness?

Misunderstood, just like Cthulhu. Giygas' only desire in life was to design his own flower garden. While Cthulhu only wanted to accomplish his dreams of successfully running for office in the United States.

Cthulhu seen here on the grass roots campaign trail.
Finally Someone Understands!!! Cthulhu just wants to be Elected in 2012!!! It's his horriby negative image that the media has made in order to cause some stupid world wide panic about the World Ending!

C'mon if we could Survive Jimmy Carter I think we can survive anything!

Well yes, Giegue (as I like to think of him before he became Giygas) was only on a mission to destroy the humans out of his obligation to his race, as he was raised to be the Cosmic destroyer. But after his initial defeat, what he did to himself in order to be able to overcome his emotions and destroy the humans seems a little extreme for someone who was only in it because he had to be. Also, when he lost control of his mind, you would think that he only continues his destructive behaviour because of what he had become, but he shows that he is still intent on destruction regardless because of the Devil's machine, which contains his power and keeps his mind intact. While in the machine he continues to brainwash people and lead his starmen army.

True, but by the time that the party comes around to fight Giygas, his mind is gone...

Come to think of it, it was Pokey that told us that, and we know that little prick has been a thorn in our side. How the hell can he be close to him and not be destroyed?

I may need to finish the first game, there seems to be a lot there that's left unsaid about our ultimate destroyer.
