The war lasted five years. Five of the most terrible, bloodiest, atrocity-filled years in the history of the Empire. Countless lives were lost. A famine waxed and waned throughout the duration. Cities were sacked, liberated, sacked again, and razed.
But it's over now.
Sprawling from the ashes arose an emperor and his empire anew.
Back-story of the Sona Empire and the Great Civil War:
The exact origins of the Sona Empire are lost in history. The popular beliefs lie within the religious preachings of the various practices prevalent throughout the Empire, but none can be verified. What can be confirmed is that the Sona Empire had been led by the Kaplan line for centuries, and some say to the very inception of the Empire itself. It has flipped from expanding, receding, and stagnating numerous times in its history, but has still remained the most powerful and influential civilization known, the very pinnacle of culture and wealth.
At one point, however, it seemed that the empire was nearing its end.
This point was the Great Civil War, in which Sona was split into two factions: the Kaplan loyalists and the supporters of the revolutionary Sandon Munso. The emperor of the time, Yoca Kaplan, was the least popular emperor ever recorded. His reign had led to three devastating barbarian wars, the deposing of multiple influential families of nobles, famine, the wealth of the nation being halved, and taxes being raised terribly high.
Needless to say, Emperor Yoca was not well-loved. His greatest enemy, however, was the governor of Ensia, Sandon Munso. Sandon Munso was a wise governor, a tactful politician, and a man with many friends. Sandon Munso continuously spoke out against Yoca with increasing intensity at every turn, gaining enough support to start a full-on rebellion. This rebellion was the beginning of the Great Civil War, the exact military details of which are either common knowledge or written about it specific books pertaining to the subject matter. The war was five years of hell, the end of which was Yoca being killed at the Battle of Sou and the subsequent surrender of his followers.
The nation had crowned a new leader, who would repair their damaged nation and who's line would lead them into continued greatness for years to come.
It is now two months after the official end of the war and the official start of the reign of Emperor Sandon. The regions of the Empire have gone without governors since the end of the war, and the Emperor has now called his most trusted supporters from various backgrounds to assign them each as governors in reward for their service.
You will be playing these governors, each to be put in charge of whatever region Emperor Sandon sees fit as reward for the unwavering support provided through the hardships of the war.
