Have you ever played a game for awhile that was fun and engaging and then through normal life stuff lost the game and can never remember it.... i have lemme detail the game and if anyone has a game they remember but can't remember the name maybe Escapist readers can help.

1) PC game, from pre-2001
2) set in space
3) Economy game (mainly) with minor battles on shipping lanes.
4) large selection of space freighters (with various armaments and cargo capacity)
5) You ship what a planet needs and trade between multiple stops (IE: one planet needs people, while it has metal or food to trade for it)

I can remember kicking ass at the game but damned if i can remember the name....

Maybe you could describe the combat and gameplay a little more thoroughly?

That makes me think of games like the X series... And there were many others. Like where you bought resources and loaded them into your ship to go sell them elsewhere for a profit? Freelancer was sort of like you described, but that was released in 2003. Kinda like old school Tradewars.

The fighting was all cut scene style, and was all done by "Rolling" your equipment VS the pirates there was no control just if you had better equipment you could fight or choose to run away. and the ships ranged from shuttle craft looking to large Luxury liner (shuttles from star trek TNG, or Liners that looked like the one from the Fifth Element)

there was no individual character, just a space courier company that you controlled no faces really...

EVE online? But that's 2003 onward.

I'm not much help for space based games.

I've played quite a few games of this type but I don't recall one exactly like that.

Look over this list, maybe something will refresh your memory.

Clarification: it was all done by map no in ship views, so the galaxy was laid out and planets were set out randomly and you uses the map to direct numerous ships to each place and set up trade routes, Fighting was ship based and random on the trade routes and a central HUD where you could click a ship and upgrade it....im literally searching every game on the lists provided for screen shots...thank you for the help so far
