Good FPS's?

If the title wasn't obvious enough, I'm looking for some good FPS's because... well, frankly, I've yet to actually play through one. I've only recently gotten into them, after years of gaming. I've played a little of Call of Duty on the Wii (meh) and BattleField 3 (was pretty fun, and what started this interest), but I've never actually sat down to play one all the way through. So, recommendations?

Also, some notes:
I have a PS3, Wii, and 3DS
I own the Metroid Prime series, but haven't played them yet, since I have other games backlogged.

Depends what you want from your FPS really.
Gameplay, story, graphics, even age, your preference in these will have a pretty big impact on what is a good FPS to you.

Your consoles aren't the greatest. DS and Wii aren't really prime FPS markets (more specifically the DS), and you really should get a PC.

Yeah, I'm going to be that guy.

PS3: Killzone, Elder Scrolls games, Bioshock, Battlefield, pretty much any game you've heard people give praise
PS2 (if the PS3 is backwards compatible): Timesplitters, Star Wars Battlefront
Wii: Red Steel, Goldeneye 007 (or any of the Bond games)

The Resistance series are good, 'old school'-feeling shooters. Resistance 3 is the most polished but shortest, Resistance 1 suffers just slightly from being a launch title, and Resistance 2 toned down some of the more interesting aspects of the series. But in general they're a great FPS series to try.

A PC would obviously be better for multiplat FPSes but there's Bioshock 1 and 2, Orange Box, and though it's a lot heavier on the RPG, there's Fallout: New Vegas.

Huh, another thread asking about shooters?

Bioshock is surreal but it's frequently lauded for the story and overall aesthetic of Rapture. If you can get past having magical powers caused by genetically engineering mutations and fighting guys in massive diving suits who are protecting psychotic little girls that have giant sea slugs controlling them (no, really), you'll probably have a great time.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution for a decent stealth/FPS/RPG hybrid.

Uh... Bulletstorm? I wouldn't really say the enemies are "mutants", just bat-shit insane people, and it did put a fair amount of work into the campaign.

The Syndicate FPS, maybe? It's another cyberpunk-y thing, I suppose the campaign isn't really too much longer than the average CoD game, but the story is pretty interesting and the little gimmicks it uses can keep it fresh too.

The Orange Box (Portal, Half-Life 2+Episodes, TF2) and Crysis 2 both have PS3 releases.

I suppose you could look into the various Tom Clancy's Assorted Games That Plaster His Name On The Title For Brand Recognition games. (Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon.) Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon are both tactical squad-based shooters.

Another science-fiction game that kind of emphasizes stealth, you could try either of the Chronicles of Riddick games (Assault on Dark Athena is essentially just a remake of Butcher Bay with an added campaign that isn't quite as good).
Assault on Dark Athena had a PS3 release.

Another sci-fi game, with aliens and all that good stuff, is Prey.
2006, PC and Xbox 360, so it might not be playable.

For pseudo psychological horror, there's the F.E.A.R. series (though they get progressively less scary with each sequel).
I believe all three have been released for the PS3.

I suppose if you care about Star Wars at all, Republic Commando would still count (it was released in 2005, has some great squad-based single-player).
Another older PC game.

And it's more of a brawler mixed with psychological horror, but Condemned: Criminal Origins was pretty good, but its sequel never got a PC release for some reason.
PC, the sequel was also released for PS3.

Tribes: Vengeance is a ***** to get running in a stable state (the old Unreal Engine it runs on is pretty crap when it comes to compatibility) and the series is famous for its multi-player more than any form of campaign, but it was made by the same guys who worked on System Shock 2 and Bioshock so the story is actually okay and the game-play itself is vastly different from most other FPS' (being based around the "arena shooter" style of games like Quake and Doom, so it's very fast paced and requires you to master how you can move around with the skis and jetpack you have).
PC - released in 2004 so if your PC has anything resembling modern hardware it should be playable.
Tweaked around that post a little, bolded points are different but still shockingly relevant.

The Resistance series and Killzone 2&3 are PS3-exclusive and fairly good.

Borderlands is a fun shooter/loot-em-up game with RPG elements.

Serious Sam 3: BFE had a PS3 release, though I never played it so I don't know how it actually is.

If you get The Orange Box, get Portal 2 as well.

Hm... what else...

Well, that's all I've got at the moment.

EDIT: The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series of games is... well, "better" on the PS3 than the Wii, also. Playing the campaign is basically like watching a stock Hollywood-Summer-Action flick, but it does a fair enough job of wrapping you into the basic FPS experience.

I don't want to be "that guy" but for me most of my favourite FPSs have been on PC. And I say that as someone who has played consoles and on PCs for years. I'm experienced with both.

Anyway. Killzone 2 was pretty decent in MP.

Maybe get Metroid Trilogy for the Wii?

To be honest most of the best console shooters for me were on the PS2 like Timesplitters 2 and XIII.
I actually have the trilogy, but like I said, I've got other games backlogged, so I'll get to it in the future. And to be frank, I don't really care too much for PC gaming. I've done some and enjoyed it, but most of the game I want are on consoles and handhelds...

I've been looking into Ghost Recon:Advance Warfighter on the PSN (they've got both a demo and the full game up on there), since it'll be a while before Future Recon goes through enough price drops.

Anyway, thanks to you all for the suggestions.

Yeah, having a Wii and DS doesn't really bode well for having good FPS experiences. If you had a 360, I'd recommend Halo, though if you had a 360 and didn't have Halo I'd be genuinely surprised. I hear that Resistance thing is pretty hip with the kids. Other than that, every single game made by Valve (on a PC, because Valve on consoles actually kinda sucks), Bioshock, Borderlands, CoD4 (it's fun on stuff that isn't a wii), Painkiller, and Tribes: Ascend (if you're looking for some hectically fun multiplayer. With JETPACKS!).

You're looking for an FPS and haven't played Halo?

Shame on you.

For the first one, you could enjoy the remake of Halo 1, then read the wikipedia thing or find Halo 2. Then play 3 and Reach and before you ask, thats how you enjoy the masterpiece of a story. If not the story, the multiplayer will be consistently inconsistent, in a good way of course. There is nothing like driving a Warthog across the map only to be hit by a stray piece of debris which launches you and your buddies careening towards one unlucky soul.

Tried DeusEx:Human Revolution?
You should (you really should)

Also Fallout3 and Fallout:New Vegas
But those are far better on PC, due to mods :/

I'd second that if he had an Xbox, which he doesn't.

Try the half life games, Call of Dutys, Borderlands if you feel like mixing shooting with an RPG... Is your PS3 backwards compatible? If so, get Area 51 for PS2 and thank me later.

I can't recommend the Orange Box enough for PC. It sounds like your main focus is on consoles, but those were released in 2007 or 2008, so the requirements shouldn't be too high. However, don't try the Orange Box on a console, from what I understand the ports aren't too good.

Also try the original Deus Ex if you want a unique FPS/RPG hybrid with a great story. Definitely has some dated graphics, but it's worth a play through, and you can run it on a toaster.

HOLY CRAP THAT SOUNDS AWESOME!!!

...Ahem, anyway, that sounds all well and good, but I don't feel like there's enough games besides that to make getting a 360 worthwhile... some, but not enough.

I haven't given much thought to Borderlands, but I'll look into it. Sadly, I don't think my PS3 backwards compatible.

Step 1) Get a N64 with 4 controllers.
Step 2) Get GoldenEye 007 and/or Perfect Dark.
Step 3) Invite 3 or more friends over with pizza.
Step 4) Enjoy console FPS's at their best.

Portal 2 came out on the PS3. It was pretty good on the 360 so I guess you could try it for an alternative FPS experience. As a plus if you do get a PC in the future then you can get it again for free if you do something funny with steam accounts (not sure what, I have an Xbox instead). Its better on the PC because of the Perpetual Testing Initiative, which has free levels and so on.
I think you're going to find a lot of people saying that you should get a PC for FPS's, though there are plenty of good ones on the PS3 as far as I'm aware.

If you thought ghost recon looked good you should check out rainbow six vegas / vegas 2. Both are quite good ^_^ I think there is a demo online so you may be able to try before you buy, not that they cost much these days...
