Right my mate has asked me to get him a list of really good metal and rock bands or songs. I have some but would like to know some other great bands that are out there. Thank you all for the help

Freedom call.
They are the most powery of metal bands.
I'd embed a song or two but I'm on my Ipod so I can't sorry.
Or Nightwish as Marter said.

Tell your friend to go to their local music retailer, head for the rock and metal section and pick up 10 random cd's you like the cover art for. Then grab a beer or whatever and begin a voyage of discovery which will be far more interesting than having 100 different opinions on what defines a "really good metal/rock band...

Why are people so afraid to discover music for themselves these days?

Lots of rock and metal here. You were pretty vague about specific subgenres, so I threw in quite a few different ones. Hope you enjoy.

I should have done that but I did not think about it.

Thanks everyone and I know I was vague about subgenres and everything but he only asked for a list of metal and/or rock... so all the subgenres are open on this one.

Disturbed and Rise Against are my favourite two bands at the moment. Consider that a recommendation.

Rammstein. A lot of their older stuff is pretty good (Herzeleid, Sehnsucht, Mutter albums), but their new album (Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da) is pretty damn rockin' also.

Recommended songs:

"Ich Tu Dir Weh"
"Buckstabu"
"Weidmann's Heil"
"Mutter"
"Links 2 3 4"
"Rammlied"
"Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da"
"Sehnsucht"
"Mein Teil"
"Ich Will"
"Spiel Mit Mir"
"Dalai Lama"
"Reise Reise"
"Rosenrot"
"Feuer Frei"

Pretty much anything they've made, mate. And Iron Maiden, Alestorm, Rage Against The Machine, Otep, Metallica, Apocalyptica, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Black Sabbath. The list goes on and on eh?

Peace.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lamb of God yet.

Mastodon is good to.

And Killswitch Engage
