After looking at my own place on this lovely new tool it got me thinking has anyone spotted anything brilliant on it, or does anyone have any objections to it as according to some surveys people are wondering about burglars?

this is the best picture of my house I can get from google maps, it's not very invasive on my privacy
And i've seen nothing bad in my town.

I don't really see this as an effective Burglary tool considering all they could use it for was escape routes.
It isn't live so you couldn't really case someones home with it

The pictures are quite old.
My house still has grass, which we haven't in a very long time.

Nothing but fear mongering.

In reality it does not cause any issues. Its a snapshot and doesn't give any information to burglars about routines and when the house it empty etc. My Dad is a security ?expert? and I flagged this to him, not about our home, but in relation to his work, and he didn't really care about it. Only comment was it was quite a nice picture.

I actually saw the car going around in november, but I'm not on due to them using the other side of the road to photograph it.

Sorry for the random quote, I just don't think I'll be able to write that in Off-Topic ever again.

What I find very interesting about the article is that it doesn't actually mention whether or not the survey asked the question 'Have you ever used Google Street View' first to see if they could offer an experienced opinion, let alone write any results from that question. Also, the website that ran the survey, yeah... [http://www.myvouchercodes.co.uk/] I doubt they're the most reliable or expert of sources; a website designed for ordering discount vouchers asking the public about a mapping option.

Call me skeptical, but I'm not sure whether or not any of the people actually used the Street View option in their time on the Internet, nor do I suspect they actually know what it actually does. The pictures don't really offer enough detail beyond seeing a few plant pots in a window after a quick search of my home town (more specifically, the areas in and round the High Street and the College that I go to) and the faces and any personal data (car registration plates for example) about people are all blurred. Also, the pictures are old, as already said, and it can't update regularly enough to really be an effective tool for burglars or an invasion of privacy.

As AfterAscon said, 'Nothing but fear mongering.'

There is one in Norway of 2 guys in scuba suites chasing the camera van with rakes but I cant find it.

From that picture I learnt that mainland europe is crazy.

I've got no issues with it.

If you know the address of where you're going to burgle, wouldn't you just go there for real to look around first?

Looking at a static snapshot isn't going to do you any good.

They only update it every year or so. My Dad's old motorbike is on the view for my house. But we worked out it must've been taken in Summer at about lunchtime. So I'm going to stand outside then as often as possible in order to be in the picture.

I've actually never seen anything cool, nor do I have a problem with it. I don't understand why you would be worried about privacy... I mean, people can walk around your neighborhood and see the same thing. If you were standing outside naked, well then you shouldn't have been doing that. The only strange thing is that my house has a fountain in front on the picture but we took out the fountain like two or three years ago.

My house isn't built on Streetview, which makes it irritatingly difficult to explain to people where I live. Personally I think it's quite neat - particularly if you're sad like me and use it to nose around foreign cities that look quite nice.

Last I checked, the picture they had of my house was months old. Since it's not useful for surveillance, I like it a lot.

I just wish street view extended to Japan. I can zoom pretty close in to where I was living, but not out of a bird's-eye view. And last I checked, the picture was of autumn. If they ever took a picture in early April, that would be fantastic...

well when i was trying to find the number on my letter box because i was too lazy to walk down the driveway the angle was all wrong plus i am down a long driveway so no one can see my house from street view
however i was walking home from court the sometime ago and the camera car was stopped in front of the a bus that was coming up the street

awesome comments guys, but seriously i agree with it not being a threat at all to home security at all. Maybee if somehow, on the great vine, you heard that people were checking out your house on this tool from year old pictures, then decided to paint your house like Mr Potato Head. Perhaps that could truly mess those pesky crooks up! ..... Also your house would look awesome .... do it ... and post pictures!!!!
