I picked up GT5 a couploe days ago and I kind of do not like it. It doesnt really fit in with 3 and 4, the only other two I have played. Instead of winning a car after a series or races they have came up with a leveling system, like in Need for Speed Shift. Also it seems like they dont have an overwhelming amount of new cars to buy. The two main reasons why I am starting to not like this game. I think that GT went a little off track with this one, no pun inteneded, but what does everyone else think?

1000 cars is not enough?

I don't care for GT5 as I don't care for race games. But I'm thinking you're just trolling.
only 200 are in good (face-melting) quality, the 800 others look like last-gen

I've always felt GT to be kinda slow, the speedometer reads 80mph but no way does it feel like I'm doing that speed, feels more like 30-40mph. Though I do like being able to purchase upgrades for your cars. But I remember in GT3 A-Spec you had to earn licenses to unlock races, that pissed me off.

I think the game is as good as you can get for a console racer.. looks really good and plays amazingly smooth.

Car quality issues, I dont get peoples gripes. I am having my B-sepc racer in a Standard Honda Civic racing as I type this and the car looks as good as anything else out there. granted I havent messed with photo mode.. but I dont think I really care to take pics of cars on my ps3 anyway.. seems totally dumb.

ehh from what i have been reading its alot of porting from the previous game..which is old. so yeah they should have done better in that category.

i've never been a fan of GT, as its too slow realistic driving with near zero drifting or any fun capabilities of shooting/blowing stuff up. so im not gonna comment on the game too much, my roommate seems to be enjoying the game though, so it probably has some decent qualities.

I have to agree with you, this feels a bit trollish.

So let me get the math straight. 200 new cars + 800 pre-existing cars = 1000 cars.

That's still 1000 and counters the OP's statement of not enough cars.
Actually, 200 in itself is still a huge number.
but those 800 don't even have cockpit cam, or high level of visual AND PERFORMANCE detail, which are the things that serious fans of this game want, which really makes them, especially with the contrast of the 200 good, just track filler, and seeing the specific car you really like, and were excited to think was in this game just be a flippin port without so much as an interior view, or improved textures that makes one sad panda.

The 200 'premium' cars (which are the ones sold in the new car dealer, so the OP has a very valid point about WTF are most of the cars) really isn't that many for a driving sim with both race and road cars, especially when the NASCAR cup cars (which really only come in 3-4 flavours, the team differences being paint and tuning) count for more than a dozen of them, and the game's biggest rival (forza) has around 500 with interior views and similar quality to GT5's 'good 200'

so yeah, only 200 are really good enough quality to count, and even then, palette-swaps are counted in that small 200.

GT5 has twice the amount of cars of Forza, but it doesn't have certain models like the Sagaris, my personal favorite. Can the real big fans of GT create a petition in favor of removing all the slow cars from these games? Seriously. Focus on the fun, PD.
that may be fun for you, but for many other people, it's fun to modify and tune one of the slower cars up to the point that it contends with supercars. nothing quite like out-braking a Ferrari in your Volvo. That's the big part of what makes games like GT5 and forza so much better than the games that try to get into the market like LOLNFSSHIFT, codemaster's efforts.

That _may_ be true, but the nonones still look like shit. And the game won't even let you get a close in-game picture of them to show how ugly they are.
You can still take pictures of them in replay mode. Still, the point remains, the original library of GT cars from 1-4 could in no way be applied to GT5.
the car model can be carried over, if you're familiar with how the game's made, art assets like the car model are made in a 3D modelling program and then that file is used by the game, so yeah, these are the models made for previous games being used in GT5. linky link has a nice comparison of a standard car in GT5 and a shot of it in GT4. look at the corvette, specifically the side scoop, mirror, and the bumper.

ITS THE SAME CAR MODEL PORTED FROM GT4 TO GT5.

but there is a little bit of an upscale (maybe, GT5 pic has some motion blur going on) on the texture or the blur effect is just acting there, and some work was done to make its physics work (probably took comparable premium car's 'physics file', then tweaked power and weight to match RL stats, maybe taking a different premium engine & sound so it looks and feels 'realistic enough') and BAM! Ported.

So Polyphony Digital built this Suzuki Alto model on the PS3 from scratch?

I can't understand why, in 2010 and on a HD console like the PS3, why they would create a car model with such rough edges... surely it must have been a straight port from GT4?

The cars that look the worst in general are the ones people port over from the PSP. which I am betting that Alto is.. if its a real pic. If not then its a low rez 420p captured image from a PS3.

Every Standard car I have is fully upgradedable with performance tweaks. some may have limits to no turbo or something.. but there are plenty of upgrades to do for each car I have been getting/buying.

Either way.. who really cares if the car is ported form GT4, or that it took 7 years or whatever for the game to come out.. how does that ruin/enhance your gaming experience in any way.
