I see this as a step in the direction of banning violent video games all together.

But I'm American, so thats just me.

Okay aussie government, do the same for R rated movies and banning kids from seeing them on dvd, then we will talk.

Seriously though, this wont really end up working. A parent can just buy a game for the kid anyway. Being sixteen as well, i would like to enjoy my medium that i think is an artform thank you very much.

This should also be in the gaming discussion forum.

... How? I don't see any reason this would mean what you think.

Their government is so weird.

I mean, they ban small breasts and women projectile pissing, THEN they go after 15 year olds playing "violent video games".

Seriously, what is up with that?

Please expand why you find this to be a good thing.

It seems like this is a step towards all out censorship.

You know, I'm all for the "making sure kids don't play violent video games" thing.

I'm not too sure what the big deal is, aside from what other kinds of bans may come next.

Think about it. You push the rating system back a little, after so mayn games of have already been played. Sure, you cant punish people who own these games that would not be unable to (if they have a grandfather clause like we do in the US), but that fact you're just changing it. And tahts fine, I suppose. But its harder to get those games now. So you push the issue a little more, and make them even harder to get, saying theyre even worse by making a bunch of BS studies that could be easilly disproven. Eventually, you push and push, and then POOF, its gone! Everyhting, its gone, and those games that were originally made for 18+ are no longer available.

I don't think you guys realise this, but the lack of an R 18+ in Australia has ensured some games to be censored in order to get past the regulations without being banned. One example of this is fallout 3. Australian gamers have wanted this for a long time, Im not sure what you lot are complaining about.

what? this is a step in the exact opposite direction. this means that 15 year olds cant play 18+ games. so 18+ year olds can get there hands on games that havent been censored etc.

its making it so it matches the US system i think

maybe its just me but im puting this story together with the other story of the labor party backing an 18+ classification

True, but the 18+ rating is still banned. On Becember 10th, we'll see if we are still allowed to play these games. Or if I'll have to leave the country.

Except they do. Our "R" rated movies are not like yours. They are "R18+" restricted movies, kids cannot see them, this is the same with DVD's. This is a good thing, sooo many games get banned or censored over here because they do not fit under the regulations for MA15+ (15 years and up). Honestly this is a very good thing, we can finally not have to worry about the latest AAA title getting censored. We are different than you yanks, there are restrictions on all forms of media over here, this is normal for us and something that should have happened decades ago.

Yeah, thats what its doing. Maybe not the US system, but some system from another country. But again, I'll direct you to the post above where I explained.

Thanks, that's what I meant before in my statement, maybe it isn't clear just how different the two systems are.

yes a parent can buy alot of things for there kids. this new rating system is to prevent kids buying games that are rated higher than them and to also inform parents of the content before they buy it.
