It seems like most gaming systems are getting amazing releases this year.
Specially after the, The Crew's release date was announced, Smash brothers got some new information and Borderlands Prequel Sequel was leaked and announced.

PS VITA has the Borderlands 2 port coming out and the Final Fantasy X HD collection.

3DS just released Bravely default and Smash is coming out this summer.

Wii U is getting Smash and Mario Kart. Hopefully X by monolith gets a release date and more info.

X1 Just released Titan fall and plants V.S Zombies.

PS4 Just released infamous, Hopefully drive Club comes out this year.

Division by Ubisoft and Evolve, published by 2K games should hit PC and X1 and PS4 this year. those looks cool

PS3 is getting the X-2 hd collection too

360 Port of titan fall looks like it will be good

Multi platform games are looking cool like Borderlands prequel sequel. Which should be called borderlands 2 Prelude. Watch dogs should come out for for most systems fingers crossed for the Wii U and that this game doesn't suck. Transformers is another game that is coming out for almost every system but High moon isn't behind so I also hope that doesn't suck. Fort Nite by Epic is suppose to come out this year.

On the positive we haven't hit E3 yet and we haven't heard about any other new games coming out this year yet.

On the Negative half of these might get delayed. lol

What do you think of 2014 for gaming and what games do you want to get.

It's looking rather significant for me, for a change. Risen 3: Titan Lords, Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord and Wasteland 2 are all on my radar. Don't know if Witcher 3 is delayed until 2015, or just to the end of this year though.

Edit: The PC release of Dark Souls II as well. Not sure how I initially forgot about that. It's dropping at the end of April, I believe.

It's actually looking like a shit year to me.

It's to be expected though, with the new console generation launch.

That's not a criticism of the new consoles by the way, nor of new generations in general. It's just that it brings about a bit of a pause while all the developers spend a few months sitting about planning ways to crowbar touchpads and voice commands into their games.

My being well and truly over open world commute-a-thons also tends to put a lot of new releases into my bargain bin list.

I've been scraping by on Telltale episodic releases and Bioshock Infinte DLC.

Hopefully there's some promising upcoming releases that I've overlooked or just forgotten at this moment.

The only game that looks even remotly interesting is Bravely Default.
But Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls came out, so the I'm done with 2014 for now.

Looking through IGN's top 100 most anticipated games of 2014 I can honestly say there is not a single game the interests me.
Maybe I'll pick up a few of them later, if/when they are on sale for dirt cheap and even then it is only maybe.

I guess I'll continue with my retro gaming instead.

Dark Souls 2.

/thread.

No, but honestly, I don't care about anything you mentioned except Watch Dogs. It's going to be a particularly shit year for me I imagine because I'll either have to pay a subscription fee for online on the PS4 or buy a new computer. It will depend largely on whether the next Armored Core looks any good and whether it will be released for PC. Thankfully Dark Souls 2 being on PS3 gives me months of time to think about it before I have to switch.

Meh, one man's loss is another man's gain, I guess. In terms of gaming releases the only thing on my radar this year was the FTL Advanced release for IOS which has already happened. Other than that it's looking like a pretty sparse year.

I'm in agreement with fenrizz, it's looking like another retro gaming year.

EDIT - Oh, and the Firefly pen&paper RPG. Not what the OP was really aiming at but it comes under 'gaming'.

I'm particularly excited for the 3DS Smash Bros. game. I just can't believe it took them this long to bring SSB to a handheld.

Well it's not a bad year for me .

I'm waiting on guilty gear xrd. I swear that game better come with an arcade stick for the ps4. I'll probably pick up ffx hd( ps3)and last of us ( ps4) when it comes out. Dark souls 2 is awsome. I also found a gem in The witch and the Hundred knight . And FF14:ARR comes out on monday for ps4 , so don't come knocking on my door for the next 12 months.

I wanted the triple-A RPGs to hit later this year en masse really bad, but Witcher 3 got delayed to 2015 and Dark Souls 2 is already out/going to be out on PC soon as well, so it's not going to be the closest collection. STILL there is Inquisition, which (at least for now) is still coming this year, and Shadows of Mordor: The Generic Fantasy Game may end up pretty good, if just because of its gameplay.

I agree, though. I have things I actually want to play this year, and all of them are notable, not an obscurity.

EDIT:

I remember reading it's a delay to the next year, although I think it still meant to be around the winter holidays/months. Might be wrong though.

Yeah it's shaping up to be a good year, I've played quite a few excellent games already. The 3DS line-up is feeling pretty weak compared to last year though I reckon.

I started a topic about this year in gaming in January as a way of trying to counter my total lack of enthusiasm for 2014. My fellow escapists did make me feel a little better about it, but I'm still not convinced this is going to be a vintage year.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.838175-2014-What-games-are-you-looking-forward-to

While I'm glad you're excited, looking at what you're citing, rather than anything else that's coming out, I'm not seeing what your seeing.

PS Vita: Borderlands II and Final Fantasy X are ports of (in one case very old) titles, not that its bad for the Vita to have some of the same games as the consoles, but they're surely not going to shift Vita's on their own.

3DS: Since it seems that Bravely Default is good enough to change Square-Enix's whole philosophy I'll have to give this one a pass.

Wii U: I'm sure Smash Bros and Mario Kart will be a lot of fun, it just seems a little predictably Nintendoish. (Possibly I've been watching too much Yatzhe and have been infected with cynicism)

XBox One: Not being a huge multi-player fan, I'm not too excited by Titanfall or PvZ (I presume you're talking about Garden Warfare and not PvZ 2)

Hadn't heard of Evolve before now, so thanks for mentioning it. Had to laugh at the trailer which was titled "First look at gameplay" at the top and then had a "Not actual gameplay" disclaimer at the bottom.

Division may well be good, but then we get new Tom Clancy games practically every year.

Watchdogs has gone through that strange process by which a game that looked cool and exciting when it was announced at E3 2 (?) years ago, somehow feels like something I've already played due to constant media coverage. Hopefully it will be good.

I guess what I'm saying is that every year has some great games, but if you imagine looking back at this year from 2024 say, what are we going to be discussing as being really significant in gaming. Bravely Default (highly likely), Titanfall may be a new chapter in FPS or it may end up as a footnote. Despite what Ubisoft hopes I don't see Watchdogs as ending up with half the significance of other open-world games (i.e. GTA or Assassin' Creed) unless the whole hacking mechanics really really work. (and even then it seems quite generic in terms of plot and tone compared with GTA and AC which are good at shifting to different time periods/cities to give each game a unique flavour).

Somehow I'm in a very cynical mood about gaming in general this year. I guess its typical in that this is a change-over year between the old and new generations and companies are not taking any risks at all with their games, hopefully once the Xbox1/PS4 get established we'll see a better year in 2015

Honestly I'm really only looking forward to Smash. I have a lot of games to catch up on, so I really don't mind. Beat Link to the Past, and it took me seven years because I was a stupid kid when I got it (GBA port). I'm also almost done with Dark Souls, and I have a list of other games I want to beat. So yeah, I don't mind a slow year.

Yet still no Rainbow 6: Patriots. Sorry, I am bitter about that one. I hate Ubisoft so very much.

The only game I want this year is Kingdom Under Fire 3 but it is for PS4 which I wont get until Christmas. I'd be happy to buy a Wii-U whenever Nintendo convinces me. So far, they have not. I would like to get AoW 3 but they lost out to Gal Civ 3 founders pack because I will get all expansions now. Had the founders pack not included that, I would be a proud owner of AoW3 and Space Engineers instead.

Past that, I am done this year already. Banished lured me in to spend $20 more than I had expected.

The Walking Dead's second season's release is good enough for me to consider this a 'great year for gaming' Add to that Hotline Miami 2 and maybe Catequesis, I am pleased.

Nothing has put a smile of anticipation on my face just yet, but then most of the best games I played last year snuck up on me as well.

I'll be looking forward to The Last of Us Remastered, because I'm giant tool. Abe's Oddysee: New 'n Tasty (another remaster) can't come soon enough either.

Honestly I'm not too aware of most of the release dates of games this year. I really don't know which will be released this year and which'll jump to 2015.

It's a great year for me! So many great games coming out, not enough time to sit down and play them all. RPGs (Monolith's X, Dragon age Inquisitor, Drakengard 5, Divinity Original Sin, Diablo 3 RoS, Pillar of Eternity...), dungeon crawler (Persona Q, Demon Gaze, Etrian odyssey: TEG...), fighting games (new Blazblue, Guilty Gear, EA's UFC, Ultra Street fighter 4, Jojo's, J Stars Victory VS...), shooters (Destiny, Tom Clancy's The Division), others (new Donkey kong, Hakuoki, Bayonetta 2, Hotline miami 2, Vita's Disgaea 4...)

So, bring it on!

Me too, but at least they know enough to not release some half-baked games. Tom clancy brand has always been consistently good.

All of that seems a little underwhelming, to be honest, although I'm not very invested in any of the series you listed, with the exception of Borderlands. I've been turning back to older games to pass the time, mainly, but it'll be interesting to see how the new title turns out...time to give Steam another look and see what I've missed, I guess.

Super Mario Advance 1-4 where all ports and I felt like those were great additions to the GBA library. I think Any premium game for the VITA new or Old is good for the VITA.

Seems like the best thing that's happening this year is the developing that studios are doing to bring us next gen content next year.

I see a handful of good games here and there but nothing to say a GREAT YEAR FOR GAMING over.
