We all know trailers are there to get you hooked, make you scream at your calender "Y U NO SUMMER 2012 FOR DARK KNIGHT RISES!" amongst other things. But what are the ones that have stood out the most? The ones that not only made you want to see the movie, but also helped define that movie.
I for one believe that the trailer for Ridley Scott's ALIEN back in 1979 was the best. No big explosions or even dialouge for that matter. Just clips from the movie set to probably one of the most spooky soundtracks I've ever heard, heralding in the one movie that has permanently set the bar for sci-fi horror. A movie that came on the scene when everyone was gushing about how awesome Star Wars was and turned sci-fi into OMG I JUST SHIT MY PANTS IN TERROR!!

P.S. you can hear shades of this trailer in the trailer for Prometheus which is a pesudo-prequel to ALIEN
