Hello Fellow escapists. The title says it all (although it depends on what you define as retro). For me, I see anything from 1995 or before as retro. Therefore, the logical choice is the Ghostbusters game for the Sega Mega Drive (from 1990 I think). I still play this game today and it is still one of my top games. So, how about you?

Well at the moment I'm playing a game called Vandal Hearts on [ED] pSX emulator. Its a turn base stratagy and plays a lot like xcom but swords and sorcery and without the base building side. The story is a jrpg style plot which is told reasonable well. Though there have been a few moments that have brought me out of the story, such as a character saying, "we're not in Kasas anymore" and another time the bag guy saying, [hand on hips and head thrown back]"why your almost as evil as I am, hahahahah!" Minor quibbles aside though, the game has a decent difficulty level, pretty good looking sprites and offers a good example of a rare to see genre in todays market.

For anyone interested heres a link to a youtube vid showing a bit of intro and a level in timelapse:

Gameboy: Super Mario Land, Tetris.
SNES: F Zero, Super Mario Brothers 1 or 3 (I played them on the SNES), Street Fighter II Turbo, Super Mario Kart.

These for me are the main contendors.

Gunstar Heroes.

If you played it, you know the joy.

Download it for PS3/360 for 5 USD to add in the joy of ONLINE CO-OP.

And the Wii for 800 points. With offline co-op only.

Gunstar Heroes is absolutely incredible (especially the intro music oh god oh god) but I'm unsure whether it has the edge over Streets or Rage 2 as a side scrolling action co-op game, though.

Glover was amazing.

But taking out the obvious most popular choices that have already been heralded as the greatest games of all time and if you don't like them you must be retarded...or...whatever they say about them now.

It's a toss up for me, between Crystalis, and The Magic of Scheherazade. Two NES RPGs, that I constantly go back and play. They make me happy :D

Jim Power in Mutant Planet for the Atari ST, obviously. Note that every other version utterly sucks. Why,you may be asking, because every version of the game except for the Atari ST had really shitty music. Give a listen to the Atari ST version, what you are about to hear is the most rockinest song in the whole freakin' universe, and that's way beyond Pluto:

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
I play through that game at least once a year since I got it from the Wii shop.
