I hope they tackle Tony's alcoholism in upcoming films. Civil War is certainly a good catalyst for that.

"My pitch certainly wasn?t as good as the eventual film. So everyone made the right choice."

God imagine how much less of a mess DC's film universe would be if they had anyone 1/10th this humble in charge

Didn't they kind of tentatively touch that in 2 where he was dying of unobtanium poisoning? It was certainly written like alcoholism.
Relatively touch isnt the same as dealing with. I mean, Civil War relatively touched on the storyline where half of Marvel fought the other half.

"Eight years after its release, Iron Man is still very much the defining movie of Marvel?s cinematic universe, representing everything Marvel stands for with its approach to superhero movies."

Well, "relatively touch" in terms of "they replaced alcohol with special element poisoning" they still hit the "Demon in bottle" plot beat for beat. I don't see how rehashing the same exact story only this time adding 4 real booze would improve it
I don't see alcoholism being exactly the same as someone acting out either in contempt of, or trying to come to terms with, their mortality and impending/death. Most of 'Iron Man 2' Tony seemed to be preparing for his death and crossing items of his bucket list rather than coming apart and self-destructing due to substance abuse. The 'special element poisoning story line could have been slightly tweaked to Tony dying due to cancer or some other terminal disease with little to no change in his behavior.
Doing a story focusing on Tony dealing with alcoholism (either succumbing or recovering from it) would touch on different themes and would stem from different reasons/origins.
Personally, I think the original pitch could have made a better movie than what we were given especially if Tony started out as more of a heartless, money chasing booze-hound and eventually became a hero It would have given him more of a character arc.
