With 24 hours until GTA V is launched, I decided to suggest some stupid stuff to do in GTA Online (when it comes out), with your friends.

Helicopter Duels: Basically a helicopter demolition derby, smash into each other high over the city, last man standing.
Permission for Takeoff: Two teams, one team tries to get into planes and take off, the other team is armed with RPGs and have to shoot down any attempts at takeoff. Team 1 can kill team 2 to protect pilots. After ten minutes, teams swap mission objectives. At the end of the second 'inning', whichever team had the most takeoffs wins.
Obstruction of Justice: 2+ players. One player earns the ire of the police and attempts to lose them. Another player needs to keep the cops off their friend as much as possible without earning a Wanted Level themselves, by purposefully parking their cars in the paths of oncoming cop cars.
Airbase: Two teams. Team One has to protect a dirigible/other large aircraft, Team Two has to destroy it in helicopters/jets.

What other ludicrous activities do you have in mind?

There's one thing I want to try but since I don't have friends on xbox live it'll be quite hard to get someone to do
Basically we get two carrier planes one with a car in it and the other without. The challenge to get climb high enough with both airplanes coming from different starting points with one place in the middle. Once they pass eachother the one plane will dive and the guy in the car will drive out and attempt to land in the other carrier planes bay. It'll be nearly impossible to pull off but be extremely badass to pull off

Semi-related, does anyone know whether Rockstar are going to keep up with that sodding "social club" nonsense? I remember that being a pain in the arse. Also, what about an online pass?

Alas, I shall not be joining you either way, for I am trying out the ol' routine of boycotting the practice of preordering. It'd be week 2+ even if my landlords weren't screwing me into poverty for the next few months. Apparently, they want ALL the things in advance, including more than 1/3 of the year's rent.

OT:
I love the sound of "Obstruction of Justice" mode, but the others sound like too much organisation and prep time for not enough play time. I can see them taking 20mins setup easily (even if you can get people to focus), and lasting anywhere between 10 seconds and 10 minutes.

so one thing I am going to try to do is reverse robberies, namely follow groups of people who had just robbed a bank or store and kill them when they get far enough away from the police.
...

If Rockstar can make 'police players' work in GTAO, then I doubt I will be replaying the singleplayer for a long, long while.
About the first part:
I presume you mean leeching off (ie tagging along, but not contributing) then betraying human players if I'm interpreting you correctly? That sounds like a kinda obvious exploit, so I presume there will be some kind of countermeasure, eg a "heist mode" during which PvP damage is disabled, or more likely loot carried on live players is automatically shared when victory conditions are met - that way, if a player dies, everyone loses a chunk of cash (good way to encourage teamplay). And if PvP betrayal is a common practice, that could be interesting (and, I dare say, realistic), but I can see it being horribly abused, and abuse or not it's a good way to guarantee I'll never play online when I do get the game. Perhaps better would be an alternative hardcore "free for all" mode, so you can opt-in to that kind of risk or not, as one prefers. Even if there are no countermeasures, doing as you suggest seems like a good way to get onto server/player blacklists, get reported (falsely or otherwise) and generally become a pariah. Just sayin'.

About the second part:
Yeah, cops & robbers PvP mode - it may be an old concept, but that's a great idea! I'd totally go for that.

I'm hoping a few of my Escapist friends are getting it (for 360) so we can just go around causing havoc for fun.

In the end, that is what online is about, but I am looking forward to helicopter duels.

Anyone else on 360 wanna play once online goes up?
You're on, tizzy! (Please don't have my fucking friends list be full again, xbox live.)

I have to see what helicopters handle like in this game, but I'm hoping to do that sort of thing. My friends and I used to do it in SR2, and that was only 2P Co-Op.

It's a date :D
I'm looking forward to simply relaxing in the safety of my apartment while everyone else fights below.
I wonder if you can crash into people's apartments with a plane.

"Ah! So relaxing up here. Say...what's that jet doing-OH MY GOD NO"

Captcha: bad looks
I'll be getting plenty.

What about a checkpoint race from one end of the map to the other, every man for himself, but it doesn't just go in a straight line, you have to get to certain areas in a particular order (go to city hall, then airport, then police station etc.)

I definitely see the merit in a mode like crew vs. crew vs. AI police - that could get interesting.

But at risk of seeming argumentative, I'm really not sold on the possibility of betraying teammates in PvE public games unless it's optional. The whole "Robin Hood" thing might make sense from an RP standpoint, but I doubt you'll find many RP servers so it'll be viewed far less kindly by players (I don't see it working out TBH). And I'd predict much griefing of pubbies by mobs of IRL friends going on if there's a "betrayal" mechanic. Again, it would add a whole new and fascinating dynamic, but I doubt most players would go for it more than a couple of times. Better yet, disable friendly fire during this mode altogether. I'll repeat the suggestion of having an optional hardcore mode though, that'd be cool if you could get, say, 4 IRL friends together for it.

I'll confess I haven't been following the press releases etc but judging only by your last post, the "passive mode" sounds like it could be just a spawn protection mechanic? As in, "20s or until you fire a weapon" to stop you getting killed while you're still loading, and give a fair chance to find cover.

And yeah, still loving the idea of a police vs. criminals mode. I agree, having RP opportunities could be great, especially if one could create a persistent server and get some regulars in. It'd also be good to see some bonus for bringing in a player suspect alive.

Most of which is sheer speculation. I guess we'll see soon enough how it works out.

I don't know if I should post my plans here or make another thread (which I am always reluctant to do and have never done in all my years on this site) but I already have 20-25 "missions" worked up,all with Titles and somewhat vague parameters. The game is 75% downloaded and I hope that we will at least be able to see HOW to set up online missions tonight.

I've owned every version of every GTA except for Chinatown Wars, and making up my own missions has always been the heart of the game.

For example : Title : "Drunken Bastards" / Game - GTA Director's Cut : London 1969 / Object - whenever some poor sap gets mad and yells "YOU BASTARD!" because you've crunched his car or had a near miss on a pedo...everyone must take a drink.

And no they weren't all drinking games. Some involved smoke-jk.
