This weeks topic of the week is as follows:
When if ever will computer games be as common place with the common man as such things as music, tv or films?
Consider
Example: If I walk into a shop and ask the 40 year old woman behind the counter what one of the last songs she heard played was, she'll have an answer.
If I ask a tv show she watched recently, she will have an answer.
If I ask her what film she has watched recently, she will have an answer.
However if i ask her a video game she has played recently, chances are, she wont have an answer at all, not for recently, potentially not ever.
Are computer games doomed to be nothing more than a hobby?
Though they are becoming more socially accepted, that isnt the same thing as becoming socially relevant.
Will society ever see the day where grandad and grandma are as at ease playing a game as they are listening to a radio show?
Consider
-Bare in mind, unlike Tv, Film and music, which you can sit there and not have to interact in order to enjoy them, games require at least some amount of effort.
-Games still aren't even close to being past the point of popular media/government vilification, nor are they necissarily seen as something other than a hobby geeks/teenagers/kids take part in.
-Listening to music ISNT a hobby, does anyone know anyone who says NO they DONT listen to music? Thats the kind of thing im getting at here.
-This question isn't just about social acceptance, its about games being as common place with everyone, in every way, in the same subconious popularity as music etc.
