Guild wars

So i've been watching the build up to guild wars 2 with some small interest, kind of like Smaug raising an eyelid and wondering why it's so cold in his lair. My question is should i try out the original game or wait for guild wars 2? If so where to start? There seem to be like 50 different versions to buy, is it worth picking up a 5 year old game?

I spent hours playing guild wars : prophecy's with my best friend in school. I don't know if its worth getting guild wars now mind you. If you've got a friend or two willing to play it with you then go for it but to be honest guild wars 2 is looking so much different in terms of game play and story. Guild wars 2 is set about 150 years after the original and looks like it might have a more unique story and less lore reference.

I say get it if you've got the friends, not for the insight it might give you into guild wars 2, but for the sheer fact that it was a great free to play MMORPG.
