Gun grave (game)
Reviewed by sheep

As I have entered my annual bout of nostalgia which causes me to dust of my PS 2 and indulge in some good old fashioned non HD fun i am going to take a strolldown memory lane which this year takes the forum of the little known gem gun grave, which when it was released back in 2002 went largely unnoticed at least in Europe and the us but in Japan was hugely popular and spawned it is own anime TV series. and it is very easy to see why the Japanese liked it but hard to see why no one else did as the games developers Red Entertainment managed to bridge the gap between story line, game play and styling which so many people fail to do and most of which are happy with 1 or 2 out of 3 or in EA?s case 0 out of 3. I can see why some of the self proclaimed gaming purists or smug bastards as the are other wise known might take issue with this game seeing as it cell shaded or if you want to be give its proper title no photo realistic rendering. now I am not a fan of the style of rendering but in this game it dose work completely as from the ground up the whole game seems to have been designed to look feel and play like an anime the only thing missing is the overly effeminate lead character which is a good thing as in this case the lead character is a double hard basted called grave (who was designed by Yasuhiro Nightow who created both the anime and the manga trigun.) with wonderfully weird clothes and weapons.

The weapons take the from of a pair of dual wheeled huge fucking calibre pistols that never need reloading and a coffin that houses a big fucking machine gun and rocket launcher which are used for special attacks called demotion shots and in tight spot the coffin be can swung as a close combat weapon and as strange and awesomely cool as all those weapons sound and they are but for some reason u just don?t question it. Even not having to reload which I know Is not very realistic but then again nerrth is reincarnated mobsters who make up the vast majority of your targets. And that is pretty much all your enemies actually are, is targets that shoot back. to say their A.I is bad would be unfair it would be better to say that it is non existent as all the enemies do is either stand in front of u or run towards you but as they spend such little time on screen u just don?t care as you are normally far to busy blowing chunks out of them.

but this game is not just all shooting and no soul as this game manages to bring some thing new and interesting to the whole gangster Jonah in the from of the story line, which is in brief as follows. having been brought back to life and having had your guns retuned to you (which seems to be the signal to go fucking nuts) by the daughter of the former big boss of the mob, whose mother grave had a fling with and being non to keen on the current boss of the mob primarily for killing you that?s right killing you and the former boss and his wife who you liked you decide to single handedly take down the mob one sub boss at a time, despite being in some places familiar and in others just down right weird ,the story is so well told u end up totally immersed. Which is impressive as this is easily also the most stylish game in the world Even though the lead character is a mute every aspect of this game is very well styled the combat the look of the game the story the lot
So
Is it shit?
No absolutely not no game that has a lead character carry round a coffin full of guns and gets a way with it but still manages to incredibly stylish and have such a great story could ever be shit.

If your reviewing a game, doesn't the game deserve to have both words in its title start with a capital letter?

-I do realize I sound like a teacher, so I'm off to scrubs my mouth out.

Grab the soap for me, then, if that's the decent response. I'm about to English Major the hell out of this piece.

To start, your review doesn't really flow very well. The wording and sentence structure is unappealing and difficult to read. The fact that it's not broken apart at all strikes me as a piece that was a rant captured on text and didn't really evolve from there. As such, it became more a rant than a review.

Following that train of thought, it's a mess of grammar inconsistencies and run-on sentences. Normally I'm not so hard on that, considering I'm just as guilty of it as the next guy, but the rambling handles itself so disjointedly that I feel like I need to re-read it another few times, even red-penning certain points so I can see where thoughts end and others begin.

Also, as a review, you fall pretty short of your mark. As far as I understand it Gungrave (One word, oddly enough) is a third-person shooter designed by the artist of Trigun. The game itself is a run-and-gun involving the character who, I'm guessing, is one of gaming mute-badasses who handles double-pistols of never-reload-unstoppable power, and a huge gun swinging from his shoulder to blow up the entire room in one shot. Also, cel-shading and explosions.

What you don't tell us is the appeal of this, aside from wanton destruction and silliness, not too unlike No More Heroes or sandboxing on the GTA series. Or the difficulty. After researching a few third-party reviews, this game scores pretty low on the difficulty rating. It's also short, and one-sitting game. You also fail to mention much of the story's depth, just that it has it, which strikes me as odd. Can you not even setup the plot line without spoiling it?

All of that aside, your formatting lacks good spacing, so it's difficult to read as it is several blocks of text. Nothing too harmful, just a little off-putting. As far as I can tell, the review doesn't really address most of my questions as a potential gamer, and I don't feel any need to play this game. I'd never spend money on it, unless I were to try it first-hand for free.

So, no offense, but in short... Your reviews need a lot of work. Hope that helps.

I never even dared to play the game, because the anime rocked and playing a anime remade into a game is 90% of the time shit.
