Seeing so many Halo topics, and so much praise (and of course whining) about Halo Reach, I think I might have caught the bug.

I played The original Halo, once.
For about an hour.

I got on the ring-thing and had to save some fellow marines, but the crappy vehicle section made me lose interest fast.

However, I heard that it gets better after a while. Especially the later instalments.
So, is it too late to start getting into Halo.
Is it worth getting Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST and Reach?

The best Halo is always the first one you play. Any others are simply copy/paste more of the same.

Play through it. The vehicle sections don't control as well as they do in the later games, but the whole game is great, even if the levels are copy paste every 100 feet. Also, play the other games too.

This is true.

Also, don't buy ODST unless you get it for cheaps. Game sucks.

Give it a shot if you want, but be warned, Halo 2 & 3 are part of the same story and it drowns on just a bit. ODST is more of a DLC pack than anything else. Think a Red Dead Redemption DLC but with entirely new characters.

if you play through them try and get a friend to do it with you, its so much more fun on co op on there, i swear co op makes any campaign better just about, but i'd play through the campaigns at least to enjoy that, then maybe go and get reach, as every aspect of reach is a treat for sure.

The single player compaign in Halo 2 is complete arse.

The rest of the Halo games are ok, with occasional detours into "pretty good" territory.

in my humblest opinion, yes, you should try them out,I enjoyed all of them although the 3rd's one ending was a bit meh and ODST was too dark for my liking(not dark as in, scary but dark as in...it was always really dark)

I only ever bought Halo 3 + Reach for the multiplayer. The 'story' can rot in the annals of 'worst, overhyped story in history', for all I care.

I disagree. Halo 2's campaign is far better than 3's, which is saying something.

Reach still has the best one though.

2's was amazing...right up until Chief says.....

"I'm finishing this fight"

The most annoying, angering moment ever. Period.

Reach's campaign has my favourite missions though.

if you've never played halo your weird, i say it is worth it. of corse halo 1 was the first one so it has to suck, thats what halo 2, 3, ODST, and reach are for, to pick up the slack on halo 1

I think it's totally worth it.

I mean, to be honest, you may have joined Halo a little too late. I can't see you getting much enjoyment from the first game at all. If you were playing it back in 2001, you'd be amazed at it. And the rest of us have grow up with it all these years.

It's still worth a playthrough. If only on the cheap.

EDIT: After reading a couple more comments everyone seems to be hating on ODST so removed the quote I previously had.

Get ODST or Reach if you get anything. Reach has all the enjoyment and feel of the original game so it's probably the way to go. ODST is different, it's alot slower then other Halo games and has an extremely enjoyable atmosphere if you let it. Depends on what kind of FPS fan you are.

Best to go for Reach for now. I don't think you will have to much trouble with the plot line as it's stands on its on two feet well enough that you won't need knowledge of the first 3 games.

If you enjoyed the campaign, give ODST a go. If you only liked the multiplayer, skip it.
