Hand animation

Hi, I recently started playing Heavy Rain. I noticed that even though the game has quite realistic facial animations and body movements the hand movements are really wonky and allmost looks like something from the N94 age.

While other games have had somwhat better hand animations ,I have a hard time comming upp with games where they have been really good. Have i just been playing games with unusually bad hand animations or is this a problem in general and if that is the case, why?

That's the same with pretty much every game. Some games offend worse than others (as much as I love the game, Alan Wake was HORRIBLE with it) but the only games where you see decent hand animations are FPS's.
