I just noticed that Hard Reset now has a demo available on Steam... I think it must have just popped up today or yesterday.

So for those who've played it, what are your thoughts? Is it the old school PC shooter you'd hoped for?

I'm downloading it now... the cyberpunk setting looks great from what I've seen and I'm a fan of health packs, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

The full game comes out in less than a week.

Well, I just played through it. I'm disappointed with the size of the demo... it only gives you one area which will take maybe 15 mins to complete.

That said, the game seems to deliver as promised. The world is well realised, weapons feel meaty, and explosions are frequent and look and sound great.

The system of two upgradeable (e.g. you can add a grenade launcher and shotgun to a minigun style weapon) weapons instead of carrying around a bunch of distinct weapons is curious, since you have to first select the weapon you want, and then the firing mode you want, but I can live with it.

The Doom 3 style mouse-driven interface you use at the upgrade kiosks was a nice touch.

... I have to admit that this was the only thing I found worth batting an eyelash for in that demo. It even made me emit a small, curious noise and keep running up to upgrade terminals. "Now I am waving my gun, NOW I am pointing at a user interface.. now I am waving a gun.. NOW I am pointing at a user interface... weee".

All the explosions and shiny reflections and bright lights everywhere were horribly distracting though. So I went back to play some Thief after that (hehe *points at LookingGlass's avatar and cracks a silly grin*)

Also... this happened. [http://steamcommunity.com/id/sadja/screenshot/596947977544222477]

The demo is... for me at least. Given that Australians always seem to get everything last, I'm assuming it's out worldwide. The full game is 6 days away.

If you mean the size of the demo, it's about 1200MB.

I think it was ok but doubt I will buy it. I regret buying Painkiller and while this was ok I couldn't help but think of the Serious Sam 1 HD demo with some more (slightly) annoying controls. Don't know why they couldn't just make extra weapons and assign them to the number keys instead of making the 2 weapons you switch back and forth then switch the modes. Still it isn't a deal breaker by any means but I think I would spend my money else where. Like the other things I have on my steam wishlist or my GOG wishlist. It wasn't bad but I have other things I want more. Also don't get why they made the main menu the way it is. It's supposed to be fancy but the 3 second animation to go through any section of the menu got a little irritating.

Sweet, if Australia has it then New Zealand will have it too.

First thing to to when I get back home!

I played through it, I liked it. Very good ambiance, loved the weaponry, wish that the guns had a bit more "punch" to them, like you can really feel the impact of each hit...The amount of screen-shake while shooting is a bit too much if you ask me, but these are tiny nitpicks. I love the game, the artstyle/graphics/aesthetics, the combat, the health/ammo system (anyone else notice how ammo regens to 50 if you sit there for a bit?), and like the semi-destructible environments///using the environment to your advantage. Seemed like there's some really pointlessly hilarious physics in it too.

I enjoyed it. It's not a must buy or anything as I've never been too into Serious Sam/Painkiller type things but I'll give it a play through one day.

The way you choose weapon is a bit fiddly though, I'd have preferred to be able to scroll from plasma to ammo types instead of having to press Q or E to switch to both sides but it's a tiny inconvenience. I also don't like shared ammo since Deus Ex: Invisible War, but it's alright.

Fun game though, demo lasted 30 mins on hard with me dying once and looking about a fair bit for secrets.

Fun stuff. It's quite well optimized, it looks great, and is fun as hell to boot. The game certainly looks like it's going to live up to its impressive pedigree.

i just did a first impressions video of it, and my opinion is that it is ok

i gave it a 7/10

it has solid graphics, good sounds effects, good animations and a dynamic environment

but

the gun fire gives me a headache with the muzzle flash (that might just be me) and the controls are a little weird to start off with, like "Q" and "E" are change weapons...

I felt like I'd seen everything the game had to offer after about 20 seconds.

I just played it, it's awesome. I loved Painkiller and Serious Sam and I feel we're in need of a solid old school style shooter since Duke got Halo-ized. It's also pretty high up there graphically. I had every setting on Max, including AA. It ran beautifully while maintaining 60+ fps AND looks great. My PC hasn't gotten a decent work out in a while.

Loved it to bits. It sure is a spiritual successor to Painkiller. Feels odd however to change weapons with E and Q but I'm getting there. Can't wait for next tuesday.

Yeah it was alright. I'm not keen on the weapon choosing system, the grey robots on grey backgrounds were a bit hard to make out, and you move too slowly when not sprinting but I'm being picky.

Overall, pretty close to a proper old school shooter, rather than this modern toss.
