Definitely. There's so many supporting facts and anecdotes to support that.

Though I'd go with a lot of NES games. But that's becuase they were extremely flawed and had very poor game mechanics.

The hardest game I've played myself though would have to be Devil May cry. I have had the game fr 2 years and haven't gotten past the lava spider boss.

Battletoads. The first two levels were doable if you were new, but anything after that you had to know exactly when to jump/move/backflip/masturbate otherwise you were toast. I only finished because I ran it on an emulator and saved it every few seconds.
