The hardest game I have ever encountered was Star Wars Jedi Knight Outcast II. Because the levels are sooo long and you don't know where anything is.

-(would probably also accept Super Meat Boy or some obscure bastard old school Nintendo Hard Game)

Driver 2, why? It was at points such a buggy and laggy mess that I broke 2 copy's over it (first kept crashing in Havana, second copy didnt work at all) on my third copy I actually managed to finish it....
.... 10 years after release....

This link will show the most ridiculous mission of them all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVNmuB16vgk

I nominate the original Contra.

Old games were way more cruel than any game today. Dark Souls, take a fucking seat.

Are you saying Battletoads, a game which the developers couldn't complete, is a bastard game? Battletoads' feelings are hurt.

QWOP.
Seriously.
That game is impossible.
Game is actually not that hard once you understand how to make it work. Or you can faceroll to slide across the floor indefinitely.

Devil May Cry 3 of course.

The game that was so hard they had to release it again as an easier version.

If you're going to call a game the hardest ever, you need to go into more detail.
And if you're going to go into a thread called "Hardest Game Ever" you should probably mention a hard game.

Questing the World for One Piece? I'm unfamiliar with that acronym.
Its the keys that you use to play the game, the name of the protagonist and the name of the game.
QWOP Qwop and Qwop respectively. Google it, and try to make 100m

Midnight Club 2... Its a bloody sweet racing game. A bit like a racing version of Painkiller, like yahtzee says, no annoying shite on the side, and Midnight club is like that, what it lacks in the stupid upgrades, money, and every other racing cliche it makes up with a raw racing experience, and while the game is quite lengthy, it becomes even more lengthy with a mercilessly clever AI that will make you press that restart race option more than you blink. I can still remember that ***** Hayley in Tokyo... Took me hours to kick her ass

Ninja Gaiden on the NES for me. Its one of those games that I still never managed to beat, even 19 years after I first played it.

Plus I've become accustomed to modern games so my reactions are like shit now.

Some off the top of my head are: Super Ghouls and Ghosts, QWOP, IWBtG, Ninja Gaiden, Super Meat Boy, and Binding of Issac. Just to name a few.

I got that on the Gamecube and felt exactly the same. I couldn't make it through the first level and an added factor in my annoyance is how dark everything is (though in fairness that could be my TV's fault)

Even after being pampered by modern games, the farthest I've ever been able to make it in Ninja Gaiden was 6-2. That game is insane but I don't hate it. I would be playing it now actually if my NES didn't decide to kill itself...

I think I can remember posting a link to this game before...

Invalid. Once you've developed a technique on how to play it, you can complete the game as many times as you want.
