Hardest game you played by choice.

I say by choice because i know the general answer would be dark or demon souls.

Today i finished dead space 2 on zealot. I'm about to jump into the hardcore mode were you only get three saves and if you die you go back to your last save. (you could loose 2,3,4,5 hours depending on where you use your precious save files)

So that had me wondering, what would you guys consider the hardest game by choice? This could just be setting a game from normal to hard or something like fallout new vegas's hardcore mode. Anything that changes difficulty is open!

The newest Ninja Giaden for the 360, couldn't get past the second boss.
More recently, the new Deus Ex on 360. I was used to being able to take two shot to the face, so the first couple gun fights were very surprise in brevity. In the first couple missions, it also didn't help that I'm going for a non-lethal play through. It actually got easier when I stopped using guns all together (I ran out of dart while tranquilizing homeless people).

Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts (I can never get pass the first level) and Monster Hunter Tri (that game is really more about skills than it is about having the best armour and weapon).

was that the guy on top of the clock tower or am i thinking of the one that came out a few years ago?

Probably Demon's Souls. Most of the bosses in that game are crazy hard. Although Dark Souls isn't exactly a walk in the park either from what I've played so far.

I wanna be the guy , i am the only one out of all my friends to have completed it , i'm pretty proud of that .

Also SMT: nocturne on hard mode . THAT was fun . I suggest it to anyone that is looking for a challenge .

Ninja gaiden 2 on the nes . Gotta beat that in one sitting , have fun.

Zelda 2 . Not the hardest but pretty tough without looking at a walkthrough .

Dark souls . Again no walkthroughs , great experience .

Catherine hard mode . This is grueling and will make you throw fits of rage. I loved it

Agrest war zero . This i didn't complete ... Yet . So much strategy needed it's ridiculous .

Resonance of fate(?) . I couldn't do it , i don't know if it is because it's hard or because i am retarded .

I Wanna Be The Guy and Subterranean Animism pretty much tie for this spot, seeing as I got further (percentage-wise) into Super Meat Boy than either of these two. With all those games, though, I did know exactly what I was getting into, so it counts.

I think Rayman 1 is one of the hardest games I have played. Trust me on that. The fact that you HAVE TO rescue ALL of the electoons in order to fight the FINAL BOSS! It's less of going around and finding them and more of mainly trial and error such as doing certian actions to make an electoon cage appear.

Ghouls and Goblins, I actually managed to pass the first level with one coin once, but that lightning only struck once and I died pretty easily on the second level, and I didn't have any more coins, darn!
