Harebrained Schemes Sued Over Copyright Infringement

I fail to see how this can be met with anything other than a roll of the eyes and an "oh fuck off." Apparently two mechs in Battletech vaguely resemble two mechs used in Robotech, so Harmony Gold is suing Harebrained Schemes. Apparently this isn't the first time Harmony Gold has done this.

Pricks. Fingers crossed that Harebrained pulls through this ok. I didn't back Battletech when the Kickstarter came out and I regret that deeply, but I did get on the slacker backer campaign and it does look pretty good. I know they make good stuff and it's utterly criminal that someone is fucking with them like this.

Harmony Gold are nothing but copyright trolls. They never produce anything, they just sit on the Macross rights and sue anyone who makes something vaguely resembling a Macross design. This kind of shit is their whole MO. They're scum.

Well, back in the day, some Battletech mechs were blatant copies of Robotech ones. Although, in that case, the Battletech folks "thought they got the license" to use them from somebody who, turns out, didn't necessarily have the right to give them the license.

Guess HG doesn't thinkmsome new designs are legally distinct enough.

Yeah, given the two names involved it seems to be quite the opposite situation that one would think.

As far as I know, the new Battletech games use art assets from MWO. While MWO has issues, they have massively redesigned any of the Macross/Dougram/SouthernCross/whatever the fuck HG 'owns' mechs.

Hopefully HG just gets thrown out on their ass in with this one.
