Y'know those "no shirt, no shoes, no service" notices? Has anyone decided to try to dick the system? (like wearing a shirt as pants, fastened with a belt, worns shoes on their hands or head, etc.).

Edit: Don't worry, I'm not planning on it myself.

Any business has the right to refuse you service for pretty much any reason, including being a jackass.

Not surprised, and understandable, but there are people who'd try some crazy crap.

Speaking as someone who used to work at a gas station/convenience store that had such a rule, you're probably not gonna get anywhere trying to pull a stunt like that. So long as your chest/feet are bare, they're going to refuse you service and/or ask you to leave.

On a related note...can you please not? You're not as clever or original as you think, and the poor employees are probably stressed enough without having to deal with that sort of thing. I know I hated having to enforce the rule (you'd risk getting a write-up if you didn't), as you never knew if the customer was going to be cool about it or fly off the handle.

I'm pretty sure at that point you just get arrested for public indecency.

I mean I worked in places that had such a rule and didn't enforce it.

It all comes down to who's running the place on that particular day.

Don't know why, it's a stupid rule really. I mean you can't physically throw a person out of the establishment and you know the cops are going to take a forever and year to respond to a tresspassing call, and even then they're just going to ask the guy to leave too.

In all that effort, you could of just rang up the hobo's beer and sent him on his way.

The reason that it is a rule (and why the gas station I worked at back in my younger days enforced it so heavily) is because if that customer steps on something stupid and cuts their foot, the gas station is liable for it. It never became a real big issue at the station I was at (it was off a highway so not exactly heavy foot traffic or near anything people might swim at or whatnot) but a lady got PISSED at him for telling her that he needs her daughter to put shoes on or he would ask them to leave (and that was the explanation he gave them as to why, which made sense to me at least with how stupidly sue-happy our culture gets over this kind of crap).

As for the cops part and not being able to enforce it, I think that the manager giving that warning to the customer would be enough to let them not be able to sue (or at least make it much harder to win) if they then proceeded to step on something that cut their foot open.

OT: I'm not sure why you'd be looking to skate that rule considering the gas station could just kick you out no matter how much you want to "rule lawyer" them. It's not like you could go "Aha gas station manager, I have bread bags on my feet and therefore untouchable by your precious rules!" and magically be unable to be kicked out of a piece of private property...

I mean I wouldn't know why either, but Trespasser law, in NYS anyway, you can't actually kick anyone off your property for trespassing. You can tell them to go and if they refuse, you're only recourse is to call the police. This is because trespassing is a misdemeanor and not a felony, you can't make a citizen arrest on it.
