On a purely design level, this shouldn't be possible. Danial admitted in the credits to ALL of his Youtube based videos that he took the look and feel of the series from Zero Punctuation. We already had a "game discussion" that started with the word "Extra" attached to it for a while with good old Yahtzee, and Zero Punctuation is what put the Escapist on the map and quadrupled the views on the site. Think about that. I guy who ripped the orginal off, how could that ever take away the thrown? Well...
I don't know the view totals per episode, the only yard we stick we have for how much people actually watch the series is to look at the amount of comments that the episodes have. Currently Yahtzee I would say is averaging at about... 250 reviews per episode now a days. Extra Credit is averging at an easy 500, about double the comments. It might be a fair contest since Extra Credit provides more issues that can be talked and debated over in the comments, but it is starting to feel like ZP is losing steam. Tell me how many times you have heard these jokes in the last couple of months of ZP.
"...And thus my clarvoniancy was revealed" or "messes with the filing system."
Quite a few times right? Now that Yahtzee been doing this weekly video series for YEARS and now is stretching his legs into the world of novels via Mog world and possibly TV with game damage (he says he has been trying to make it better then the disaster that was the first pilot), and he has fully admitted that reviewing is starting to feel like work.
On the other hand you have the young and wide eye'd Extra Credit crew that has THREE people to come up with ideas for topics, jokes, and drawings. Their is less of a burnout when one spreads the workload among people that works well together (not to mention really reminds me of the Warner Brothers for several reasons).
So, has the rip-off taken the place of the champ?
