Has Extra Credit replaced Zero Punctuation as this site biggest video series?

On a purely design level, this shouldn't be possible. Danial admitted in the credits to ALL of his Youtube based videos that he took the look and feel of the series from Zero Punctuation. We already had a "game discussion" that started with the word "Extra" attached to it for a while with good old Yahtzee, and Zero Punctuation is what put the Escapist on the map and quadrupled the views on the site. Think about that. I guy who ripped the orginal off, how could that ever take away the thrown? Well...

I don't know the view totals per episode, the only yard we stick we have for how much people actually watch the series is to look at the amount of comments that the episodes have. Currently Yahtzee I would say is averaging at about... 250 reviews per episode now a days. Extra Credit is averging at an easy 500, about double the comments. It might be a fair contest since Extra Credit provides more issues that can be talked and debated over in the comments, but it is starting to feel like ZP is losing steam. Tell me how many times you have heard these jokes in the last couple of months of ZP.

"...And thus my clarvoniancy was revealed" or "messes with the filing system."

Quite a few times right? Now that Yahtzee been doing this weekly video series for YEARS and now is stretching his legs into the world of novels via Mog world and possibly TV with game damage (he says he has been trying to make it better then the disaster that was the first pilot), and he has fully admitted that reviewing is starting to feel like work.

On the other hand you have the young and wide eye'd Extra Credit crew that has THREE people to come up with ideas for topics, jokes, and drawings. Their is less of a burnout when one spreads the workload among people that works well together (not to mention really reminds me of the Warner Brothers for several reasons).

So, has the rip-off taken the place of the champ?

Just judging by the amount of comments they each get...not really. Don't get me wrong, Extra Credits is popular, and continues to gain in popularity, but it isn't there quite yet. Maybe in another few weeks-months, just not right now.

As far as I'm concerned, as a watcher of both, Extra Credits is more focused on debate than ZP, and hence, there are more comments, there is no point of comparison, except for the static frames narration style.

No, ZP also has a strong following of non escapists that come. Extra Credits is awesome but ZP is more popular.

If the EC crew was using yellow wallpaper and little black spikey guys then I'd call them a rip-off. However, the EC guys are making some amazing material. Comparing them to ZP is like apples to oranges in my book. It has been gone over a million times whether or not Yahtzee is running out of material and I believe a lot of the consensus has been his work goes in waves. Some are better than others, the same goes for the EC crew. Also keep in mind Yahtzee has been going a lot longer than EC. Now will EC "replace" Yahtzee as this site's main draw? I doubt it. As I said, EC is fabulous but not everyone wants to hear a deep discussion on gaming culture.

I know for me I'm much more willing to reply to an EC video simply because they are thought provoking, whereas ZP is mindless fun. I watch and love both (Though Unskippable still beats ZP for me).

No, and I don't think it will for a while. I enjoy Extra Credits more but Zero Punctuation is huge.

No. Wednesday is always crashing because everyone watches ZP. It never crashes Thursdays and the comments are only people bickering and debating like mindless folk.

It probably will, in time. But you still have hundreds, if not thousands, of non-subscribers/non-commenters who come to this site to watch ZP every week. I doubt even 10% knows Extra Credits exists yet. When it gets a little publicity on sites other than Escapist, then we're looking at a successor.

No, ZP is still the Escapist's flagship series, but EC sits atop every video series as my favourite on the Interblag. I've been following Daniel since he was just kirithem on YouTube, long before he started working here. Needless to say, I'm a fan.

I like both about as equally. Yahtzee to give me hilarious reviews, Extra Credits to give me thoughtful, yet funny topics in the gaming community.

ZP may get topped by EC eventually because EC had a good Youtube following before Escapist, but for now I think ZP is more popular.

Plus I think EC's material is more comment-able (is that a word?) than ZP so comment count really doesnt show much

idk, but, I personally feel that Yahtzee does his best work when he tears into halo, I'm still waiting for that halo ODST review, (which will never come out(soul died)), but, I'm enjoying extra credit quite a bit. I thinks it's because it's new and refreshing.

Eh, doubtful. They're pretty much not in the same league and the thing about Extra Credits is that it urges everyone who watches it to post a comment on the issue - something you don't really see in other series.

I pretty much never comment on Yahtzee's videos, but I always do when a new Extra Credits is out because I usually have something of actual substance to say.

It's impossible to make such claims without proper view counts and revenue information.

Also, Yahtzee's videos comment counts have never been that high.

Umm... Why does it matter?
Sure, they both use a similar "animation" style, but that's pretty much the ONLY similarity. Extra Credits is more focused on a broad spectrum of topics that could have a large impact on gaming as a whole. ZP, while still much funnier, is more about reviewing games than anything else... even Yahtzee's "Extra Punctuation" articles are more about how to improve games on a case-by-case basis.

Which one is better?
Who knows and who cares?
Are they both good? Yes... in my opinion at least.
Just enjoy each series for what they are and stop arguing over which one's better or more popular.

i love them both, but i have been able to show extra credits to my casual gamer friends and they will understand what they are talking about, but they don't get Zero Punctuation.
