There's no denying that sex appeal is a pretty big part of advertising, or even if it's not intentional, an attractive character can gain attention from an audience.
Usually people just try to bash stuff like this, claiming anything that tries to get buyers this way is shameful or whatever.
But let me ask you something, have you ever bought something because of sex appeal, and you ended up absolutely loving it for what it was, rather than what was on it?
To name an example in my own case, a while back DC Comics gave Power Girl her own series. Power Girl, for those of you who don't know is pretty known for being...well...Hot. I think in a poll she was even voted the most impressive boobs in all of DC (Wonder Woman being second) A short haired blonde with big boobs, a tight white costume with a cleavage window and showing off some leg...yeah, most people would claim a character like her is pretty much pure fanservice.
And I'd be lying if I said I didn't pick up the first issue for any reason other than thinking Power Girl was gorgeous (if this had been Superman or even Supergirl, I would have passed) But here's the funny thing...I really ended up liking it. The artwork is gorgeous (I already knew Amanda Palmer's talent) the story was pretty good, the dialogue was interesting and funny.
At one point it was even my favorite DC comic series, and I was pretty bummed out when it ended right before the launch of The New 52. (Yeah, technically Power Girl is back in World's Finest now, which I am reading, but it's not the same lol)
So yeah, whether it's a video game, a movie, a comic, anything. Have you ever bought something based on a decision people would argue was made with your other head (or whatever the lady equivalent is lol) but ended up really liking it?
Oddly appropriate capcha "half inch"
