Has Sex Appeal ever lead you to something you loved?

There's no denying that sex appeal is a pretty big part of advertising, or even if it's not intentional, an attractive character can gain attention from an audience.

Usually people just try to bash stuff like this, claiming anything that tries to get buyers this way is shameful or whatever.

But let me ask you something, have you ever bought something because of sex appeal, and you ended up absolutely loving it for what it was, rather than what was on it?

To name an example in my own case, a while back DC Comics gave Power Girl her own series. Power Girl, for those of you who don't know is pretty known for being...well...Hot. I think in a poll she was even voted the most impressive boobs in all of DC (Wonder Woman being second) A short haired blonde with big boobs, a tight white costume with a cleavage window and showing off some leg...yeah, most people would claim a character like her is pretty much pure fanservice.

And I'd be lying if I said I didn't pick up the first issue for any reason other than thinking Power Girl was gorgeous (if this had been Superman or even Supergirl, I would have passed) But here's the funny thing...I really ended up liking it. The artwork is gorgeous (I already knew Amanda Palmer's talent) the story was pretty good, the dialogue was interesting and funny.

At one point it was even my favorite DC comic series, and I was pretty bummed out when it ended right before the launch of The New 52. (Yeah, technically Power Girl is back in World's Finest now, which I am reading, but it's not the same lol)

So yeah, whether it's a video game, a movie, a comic, anything. Have you ever bought something based on a decision people would argue was made with your other head (or whatever the lady equivalent is lol) but ended up really liking it?

Oddly appropriate capcha "half inch"

It was subtle but their use of sex appeal led me to it. An unorthodox tactic for such an industry but somehow it worked, a rather clever idea if I do say so myself.
Wait wait wait...back up...

They have sex in porn?

...I've been watching the wrong stuff.

Never, out of all the things I love, Half-life, Megaman, Neverwinter nights, metal, guitar, D&D, none of those things were advertised to my using sex appeal. In fact, a lot of this stuff I found out about through word of mouth.

No, nothing that I can think of. It usually serves the opposite purpose of driving me away, instead. Sex appeal is usually found in place of good design, rather than alongside it.

I was sold on Hayden Panettiere, but then grew to just really enjoy the show. Sucked when it got cancelled, was just picking up again.

EDIT: Though her lesbian plot was some of the most unsubtle fan-service ever. Not that I minded, but just saying...

My wife.

What? Was I supposed to notice her "mind" from across a crowded room?

Sudeki.

Probably the biggest one for me. I wasn't even remotely interested in buying yet another fantasy action-RPG, but then the sex appeal of the cover and adverts caught my eye (also the tongue-in-cheek nature of it. They knew what they were advertising and they did it well) so I bought the game I found that it was probably one of my favourite games of the last console generation.

Power-Girl I already knew was good, but it would probably be the other one. I sort of made the decision between trying Superman or Power-Girl based on the strength of Power-Girl's enormous talent. (What? Amanda Palmer gots skills.)

I started buying Old Spice after the ads promised improvement to my own sex appeal, does that count? And oh boy were they right about what it does.

A lot of friends had told me to check out some show by Joss Whedon, but I thought I'd never get around to it. Then I found out Christina Hendricks is in it. Now I think Firefly is awesome!

I would be lying if I said no, I am a warm blooded male after all.

Most of it are guilty pleasures though, like Golden Boy.

I never buy something on the sole promise that it has tits however. There needs to be some premise of quality, like a good director, that gets me interested in the first place. And sometimes added sex appeal can give that final push for me try it out. Hell, it worked for Mass Effect.

I think 'sex appeal' marketing is so common to me that it barely (if at all) influences my decisions. I just never saw the sense in paying for something I could get free.

*Ponders back to younger days.*
Even then, I was too broke to afford anything....

Remember that Porn that used Sex in a subtle way? Neither do I.

Many movies. It's stupid to say that sex appeal has no effect on your purchase, I'm pretty sure you won't buy a product if the guy on the cover is overweight with long, greasy hair and cheeto dust on his shirt.
I think that has less to do with sex appeal and more with the fact that the image would be off-putting.

There are many straight men that'd buy a Bruce Lee film for the action, even if it had no sex appeal for them whatsoever. There are tons of other reasons you'd buy something that aren't impacted by sex appeal. I just think a lot of us are desensitised to more common forms of sex appeal or would rather get it free online.
