Has the world really come to hate intelligence?

A little while back, some of you may recall, a very intelligent young woman stepped onto a TV quiz show and scored an insanely high score at an insanely tough quiz, shortly after you was bombarded by threats, insults, and so on.

Why? Because she was intelligent? Because she has a very large potential?
Now let's move on, now we look at Jade Goodie (NO, STOP, STOP, STOP, THIS ISN'T A JADE GOODIE HATE THREAD), after throwing some rather nasty insults, she comes back with cancer, then suddenly, the women who everyone ABSOLUTELY HATES, is popular because of this.

She, god rest her soul, never really did anything intelligent to earn fame, but she is covered in roses and choclates, and a over-achiever is treated like the scum of the Earth?

I don't mind those who arn't intelligent, but a few decades ago those who where intelligent where respected, as where the dim, now for some reason the intelligent are beginning to become hated, but why?

I apologize, I don't recall this bit of news. But as to the topic at hand, intelligence has never been considered "hip" or "cool" until it became profitable. People are jealous creatures by nature.

Your not going to be flamed by me. As you rightly should be. I will just tell you that you are wrong. There is a small compact creationist movement in some small portions of the country. However you are an idiot if you truly believe that they make up a majority of the 307 million people in the US. Or the fundamentalists or creationists are even a majority of Christians.

I think you just wanted to start a flame war.

People do not like to feel dumb. The truly special are outside the norm. There for must "act" dumb to fit in. Anything that does not fit in, that is different or unique is ostracized.

That is not to say intelligent people are not respected. Just not in high school. Look at /b/ as an example and you will realized that everyone can find a place where they are just as normal as everyone else no matter how odd they may be.

I had a special case, my high school had the population of a small town. It was easy to find a group of your own no matter how odd you where.

The whole Jade issue can be mostly blamed on the media. 95% of the people in the netherlands didnt know or care who she was but we had to look at her bald head or days on end. Paparazzi is the real cancer.
