I bought the game 'Fracture' some time ago but decided to actually play it a few weeks ago. Its fun, dosent take itself to seriously (which is good because the story is terrible) and it has some of the coolest guns EVER. But when I made it to the final boss (which I was hoping was a giant robot) I had to face this evil mastermind that turned into this minotaur/boulder launching/thing/monster (which you have to fight about 4 times throughout the entire game) that had to be hit in these shiny spots in its body (like lost planet). This would have been easy if it weren't for these little bug things that popped out of the ground and killed you with one hit if you were on the floor. This forced to jump around the little arena like a jackass for about 30 min, slowly taking the boss's life away. When I finally killed the fucker, he did that dramatic 'fall slowly the ground' animation while I stood nearby gleefully enjoying the spectacle. When suddenly, I get run over by a boulder and die. As the screen went black and the words Mission Failed appeared, an achievement popped up: "Act 3 finished". Thats right, I beat the game but I technically didnt, you can imagine my anger and disbelief but I nonetheless re-did the entire boss fight (because this game has the worst fucking checkpoints) and killed him again and got the end cutscene.

Has this bullshit ever happened to you?

Also, I just finished bioshock last night and noticed that the final boss there is the exact same thing as the one in Fracture: A lumbering brute that throws things at you and then charges into your last position and stands there like an idiot while you shoot him.

Yes it has actually, but in reverse... If only i could remember what game....

anyway, I died, then he died from my damage over time affect, then it said you have been defeated, but then came up with a victory screen and went to the next level.

Yes, namely sonic games where I've killed the boss but the force makes me fall into an instant death/bottomless pit

Sometimes, usually in RPGs, like after poisoning an enemy, they kill you literally as the poison takes away the last bit of their health, or even vice versa. There's a moment where the game sort of freezes a bit before the 'Battle Won' screen, your last character falls over, and then the entire game crashes.

Mainly happened with early Final Fantasy's, I think they've probably fixed it now.

In the original Crysis, during the final level, the game autosaves as soon as you kill the last of a wave of attacking flying aliens. First time I did it I shot down the final alien, the game autosaved, and then I got crushed by the wreckage of the alien war machine I'd just shot down as it plummeted out of the sky.

Luckily it was early on in the level, so after a dozen or so attempts to dodge out of the way in the split second the save point allowed, I restarted the level.

Kinda.

I was playing End War and was around turn 12-13 with the enemy capitals as well as some territory left to take. I beat a mission and it said I beat the game. The conditions for victory was capture the capitals or capture all the enemy territory aside from the capitals. I didn't have either.
