Has Yahtzee ever hated a game and yet...

The jokes he made with all that hatred convinced you to buy it?

I can think of several examples. Madworld, Sims 3, I'm sure there are more but I can't think of them. I didn't know that Mad World was a game with comedy where Greg Proops and John DiMaggio do commentary.

So I gave it a shot. Not saying I loved the game, but Yahtzee's hated sparked my interest to get it.

Has that happened to any of you?

I don't really watch Zero Puncuation for a legit review, I watch it mostly for entertainment purposes with a slight review in it.

If I want an actual review to see if a game is good or not, I'll go to IGN.

I have never based a purchase on Yahtzee's video. The guy does decent comedy, and that's about it as far as content is concerned. Sometimes I even buy games that are considered sub-par by Yahtzee, but I still consider worth a getting, because they got a lot going for them despite any nit-picks Yahtzee can scrounge up.

Not really. When I did watch it, I watched it for entertainment value, especially considering I don't consider it to be a real review (and neither should anyone, IMO, as he doesn't touch upon many if any positive aspects of some games).

I don't usually purchase a game based solely on Yahtzee's hatred or opinion of it. I usually will get it if I get good reccomendations of it from a friend. And of course, then there's my own personal bias.

Geez, no need to take it so seriously guys. Yahtzee does review for comedy but his reviews still have merit. I've never heard him make a point that wasn't technically true on a technical or personal level. Personally I'm a little intrigued by Prototype, Scribblenauts, and HOTD: Overkill based on Yahtzee's reviews except I won't buy them because I'm poor.

I've never really been enticed to buy something off of Yahtzee's reviews, positive or negative, but I find it interesting that people here seem to think of Yahtzee's reviews as only for a joke. I almost get inspired when I watch Zero Punctuation. For some reason, I really feel that the points Yahtzee makes regarding games and the industry is something that's really helped me grow as a gamer, and learn to look out for qualities of bad game design or interesting mechanics. Anyway, I don't think there's any game he's claimed to despise and I wanted to buy just because he despised it.

I can't say if he says any useful stuff about bad games, but I will say that if Yahtzee likes a game, IT'S FREAKING AWESOME. I loved how in his Orange Box review, Yahtzee was raving on and then when he got to Portal, he was just like, "Oh, f***" because he LOVED it. It was my favorite game of all time before I saw his review, and the fact that he thinks it's awesome just makes me like it more.

No, if i liked it and he hated it, i have already played it.
If we both hated it, i sit back and laugh at the humour
If he liked it and didn't, i will not get it.

I do not base any grounds on what anyone has to say to me online about a game, i see it for myself to judge.

Sure, they have some merit if you want to know what little things annoy him about a game, but he himself has said that his fans hate it when he speaks positively about something. When he reviewed Arkham Asylum, he was reduced to picking on the box art just so he had something bad to say. While it is very funny, it isn't really a great review technique to blow every minor grievance out of proportion and make it look like a serious flaw in the game.

OT: I've bought quite a few games that he hated, but never because he hated them. I bought GTA IV because it was GTA and looked really shiny, for example. I bought GoW2 because it looked like fun. At no point in the selection process did I think "Yahtzee really hated this one, so it must be worth a look!"

Personally, I'd say the best way to decide about a game based off of reviews would be to read a legit review, then watch a Yahtzee vid. That way you know the good and the bad.

What Yahtzee does is mainly point out the bad stuff. Other than that, it's mainly for comedy. I sometimes get affected by his opinion, but not very often.

Ok, maybe I worded what I meant to ask here wrong. What I meant was that sometimes Yahtzee has made me look more into a game that I otherwise would have just casted off.

I don't buy games JUST because of a review, I'll always looks more into it before making any purchases. I know Yahtzee does what he does for comedic purposes, he's a critic/comedian after all.

I've liked a lot of games that Yahtzee has hated and I've hated a lot of games that he's liked. I just find it personally amusing when he makes a video full of total complaints yet has me going "really? well...maybe I will look into that then"

I normally buy games on other peoples reviews, and then make similar comments yahtzee does if he reviewed the game

Not yet, but I am considering buying thief 2 and painkiller at some point.

EDIT: Sorry, misread the post, as for games he has HATED, I bought sonic unleashed just to see if it was as awful as he said.
